Microsoft: Cloud could be used for 'Gaikai-like' streaming

Microsoft has said that it's cloud services could essentially be used to stream games, much like Sony's Gaikai service.

Speaking in an interview with Gamespot, Microsoft’s planning and marketing director Albert Penello told the site, “What the cloud can do is sort of hard to pin. When you say to the customer, we want the box to be connected we want developers to know that the cloud is there. We’re really not trying to make up some phony thing.

“Using our Azure cloud servers, sometimes it’s things like voice processing. It could be more complicated things like rendering full games like a Gaikai and delivering it to the box. We just have to figure out how, over time, how much does that cost to deliver, how good is the experience.”

Would you like to see game streaming on your Xbox One?

Are MSoft going to do anything other than try to be Sony with this gen? Anything Sony can do to make huge steps forward, MSoft watch and shortly after pop up and try to claim they are just as good - like a little child trying to be like a big brother. Barely thought about getting a One anyway but their pathetic attitude is turning me off the idea even more. Get a grip MSoft and do some market research of your own instead of stealing Sony's fresh thinking!

Would be cool, and I bet it would be locked to gold members.

Normally I try to avoid this whole fanboy stuff but come on think about what you are writing. Fair on this occasion Microsoft may have thought yeah that's a good idea we could do something similar. However it's not as though Sony were the first to do online game streaming look at onlive that came out a few years ago that's essentially the same thing that Sony copied. Oh and playstation move you know the motion controllers that look like a wii mote with a ball attached to the end. Ps plus now charging the same as Xbox live did, psn will have party chat now just like Xbox live did. No matter how you look at it companies will get influence from other companies.

The whole "MS copied Sony" or "Sony copied MS" is just silly. So you're saying once one company does something, no one else can do it or a similar thing? In that case you better moan at every modern FPS game now for copying the first game to ever do it (can't remember which was first) Or every console that uses a disc instead of cart is copying others ideas.

"come on think about what you are writing... the same thing Sony copied" Sony didn't copy anything, they bought Gaikai who have been around for years themselves.

Would totally agree with your rebuttals - except they aren't copying anything. It's more that they are saying they could copy if they wanted to - just to test the waters to see how much the idea is benefiting Sony. If MSoft came out and said they had been working on it for a while then fine - but they aren't - all they are doing is fluffing their feathers to show they are still a big boy but without any real substance.
