Tuesday Chat, September 10

GTA V is out this time next week. So let's talk GTA once more. Are you looking forward to it? Why are you looking forward to it. Why are you so desperate to get it a day early?

Given that we are the news site we've no idea when orders will be posted, so let's not fill the comments with questions asking. Let's just chat GTA style!

Happy birthday to your dog, Gloria. As for GTA V, I'm not overly interested. However, I may give it a proper look when I get paid at the end of the month.

Yeah, works out as 98 in dog years, still plenty of life in her yet though, today she is getting plenty of sausages to eat, as they're her favourite.

Looking forward to some GTA, as long as i have it on release date I am happy, it is just an extra bonus if they come early and so far I have never had a single game come late.

I really can't wait for this game. I think I'm more hyped about this than the next gen consoles. Only downer is that the online won't work for 2 weeks, can't wait to do some bank jobs with the lads. Was there ever an official reason why GTA online isn't available from launch?
Kaysar's avatar
Kaysar 3 years ago
I pre-order here because they're the only online site I've used that have always got the item to me on release date each and every time. I also generally order here as it's one of the cheapest sites I know. I now visit here daily (and thus am more likely to order from here) because I discovered this chat side of the site.

Not sure why maybe it just wont be ready in time so instead of delaying the full game they are just putting back the multiplayer, or it could be that they want people to play the single player and get a feel for the game first (after playing payday 2 it can be quite frustrating playing with new people in heists that just run in guns blazing.) Could be to get a gauge of how many people are playing so that the servers could be ready. Again these are all just guesses.

Boss that's the only reason I pre order from here is to get a game early because recently you've not been competing price wise.
RTLF's avatar
RTLF 3 years ago
Wouldn't say that's utterly fair, a lot of the prices are competitive, not all, but the rest are reasonable. Got Killzone Mercs for £27.85 and saw it at Game for £32.99... Getting it a day early was great though :) Special mention also goes to the rewards scheme(nearly at silver membership now) as well as the great customer service...

RFTL you find me something on shopto I can guarantee I can find it cheaper elsewhere.

I got payday 2 for £22 and in GAME it was £40 so it just depends on your luck really.

I started shopping here because they were usually the cheapest and found they got the games to me next day in most cases. Recently they have slowly been losing the comepetitive pricing edge but what people dont take into account the reward points. Amazon maybe a £1 cheaper for the game but if you get £1.50 reward points then shopto is cheaper but just doesnt look like it on the face of it.

It is the cheapest i have seen for the xbox one games like dead rising and ryse being at £44.99 GAME have them at £59.99.
Spear 25's avatar

Xbox One games are the same price on Amazon too (£44.99), but due to reward points and quick delivery I'd opt for Shopto. However I do agree with Joe Tootell to a certain extent, there are a few pre order games you can get cheaper elsewhere even after you consider the reward scheme.
JoeToots's avatar

If shopto hadn't already charged me for example on my SRIV pre order I was going to order from tesco for £25

Shopto were pretty good with prices, mostly cheaper if not the same price, now they are more, Amazon is selling GTA V for £35, whereas Shopto is £42.85. They have generally been good with getting games delivered on time, but earlier in the year, 2 games got lost in the post within 1 month from Shopto, whereas none have gotten lost from elsewhere, which seriously put me off using Shopto - a few days late is better than waiting over 15 days.. Shopto used to dispatch another one if it did not get received within 3 days, and then send back the duplicate, but they do not do that any more. Amazon seem to be the best place for stuff currently. I have GTA V preordered with GAME to get their exclusive as got it on deal for £5 off which last about 2 days a few months ago, but they can be annoying as if there is a glitch with your payment method the order gets cancelled. This happened with Tales of Xilia with extra DLC and there was nothing wrong with paypal, as I immediately ordered some MS points from them using paypal to show them paypal was OK, but they still would not give me the bonus DLC. I think they did it on purpose because they ran out of codes for the bonus DLC, and blamed Paypal instead of themselves. I ordered Tales of Xilia from Amazon then. I will do the same with GTA V if GAME cancels it and can not get the £5 discount again. Other retailer try the payement method again if it fails, and Shopto even allow you to prepay - if GAME are worried about people not paying they should add this.
Zombieflamingo's avatar

If it is considerable difference i don't mind ordering elsewhere but i usually find that it never is. Not a fan on preordering from amazon as I have had a few times that i have had to wait an extra week or so. I find zavvi to be cheap but there deliveries take ages.

I had a few times that happened with GAME as well Tony, it happened to my brother when he ordered dead rising 2 for £25 from them and ending up having to pay normal. Don't know if you can blame the stuff getting lost in the post on shopto as it does happen sometimes.
RTLF's avatar
RTLF 3 years ago
Yes Boss, the government really shouldn't allow Amazon to operate this way. Its unethical and unfair to other retailers... Also Amazon have let me down time and again. I tried their *paid for* "Guaranteed next day delivery" service a while back and all three orders I made took two days to arrive, might as well have just got normal first class post for free! Last time I shopped with them I got SFxTK for Vita(As ShopTo don't stock it) and after waiting for a week I received the US version meaning the DLC codes for the extra characters(which also download on to the PS3 version) were useless to me. Had to post back and wait over two weeks for a refund... never again thanks...
superniceguy's avatar
superniceguy 3 years ago
I am not really blaming Shopto, although I was advised by Shopto to pay an extra £1.99 for tracking service in future. It could even be the Royal Mail people at the sorting offices between Shopto and myself being dodgy, whereas the Royal Mail staff at the sorting offices between other retailers and myself are not dodgy, but whatever it is, it is a turn off, especially when it happened TWICE within one month. Not even discs from Blockbuster / Lovefilm that get sent back and forth almost on a daily basis get lost that frequent.

All I can say is for big releases like this i'm prepaired to drive up the road to asda or tesco at 12 to buy. So being delivered on the day and paying 5/10quid more for the game wouldnt be worth doing again. The point system on here don't mean anything to me. I got a quid off next game, but paid more for game in first place... No logic there.

The Boss's avatar

"Scott" there will be always some one that will decide to loose money so they get more traffic via web site and this will never stop.. maybe you are looking at this particular moment that Amazon has some loos leader prices because of a price war with Tesco.. BUT over all in a year and among all products we are the cheapest of all and we offer better service..
The Boss's avatar
The Boss 3 years ago
From Cogenta take sample of thousand product and compare our prices Q1 report: Last quarter, we reported on ShopTo.net showing how a new retailer could come into the market and really focus on quality of service and price to achieve a firm grip on a category. This seems to have continued over the beginning of the year, and they have now beaten Amazon in price for the first time. When comparing Amazon and ShopTo.net to the rest of the market, there is a significant gap. It seems that over the course of the month they have been focusing on each other when price matching, although ShopTo.net has taken a significant lead.

I would also add, people are implying it's an either or. Either shop here, or shop there. The great thing about being a consumer, is you can choose to shop everywhere, if you so wish. I may get many of my games from ShopTo but they alone to not supply me (Sorry ShopTo, it's not you it's me. I need some space. I'm in love with your sister)

I find that being a gold member on this reward scheme is a million times better than the reward schemes of the likes of Game, Grainger Games, Gameseek, Zavvi & anyone else I missed, hell even being a bronze member is better than some of those schemes

Wonder how long that offer is going for, my gold don't run out till December but it's not bad considering the price of gold has gone even cheaper here now. Zombie, where are you getting these £59.99 games from? if you're talking about GAME then the games you listed are £44.99 same as most places.

I want the day one games to be fair, but it's going to work out better me getting Xbox one from here now I don't have to pay for Forza. But to be fair, knowing Capcom, that stuff will be on Xbox store eventually like the DR2 pre-order skin packs.

I buy the majority of my games on release day, even if I have no intention of playing it. I bought Bioshock, Hitman, Far Cry 3, AC3, RE6, Tomb Raider and other games and then didn't play them for like a week, some even longer than that. Others, I have played a bit then not gone back to it.
Zombieflamingo's avatar

I stand corrected I just checked the Day one editions are now only £49.99 with the normal £44.99. Will stick with here the only one i would have been bothered about was DR3 but would rather just have everything come together,

MS is even doing a day one edition of Xbox LIVE gold, I checked and seems like it comes with a Killer Instinct character or something, but knowing MS they will charge £40 for it because it's day one X1 branded, whereas you can get 12 months here for like £30

Just to bring it slightly back on topic - and hopefully if Igor is reading this - I am a really long standing customer but have been going back and forth on ordering from here or Amazon for GTA 5. Without clearly 'stating' a monday delivery, if I were to order today (Tuesday 10th), will I still be in line for a 'first wave' delivery (hopefully monday) :)
Whitey's avatar
Whitey 3 years ago
To be honest, not sure why so many people have had bad experiences with Amazon, I've not had any issues with them and have never received a new game later than release date. Think the only reason Amazon has more bad rep is because it's much more popular so the more people using it, the more chance something goes wrong. That said, overall I think ShopTo's service is better.

Just the preorders from amazon i have had issues with, last game i ordered turned up a week after release and my vita was 3 days late as well. As long as i get what i preordered on release date i am happy if early then even better. Apparently rockstar have asked for them not to be sent till monday, do not know how much of an ask it was though so they may not need to comply

It's weird. I have the game ordered from GAME because I'm getting a special edition for little more than Shopto is doing the regular for. But have little interest and not hyped in the slightest. Honestly have yet to see an actual gameplay. Even more honestly I don't know why I have it ordered. More excited for Kingdom Hearts in the next few days (paid for it yesterday so should have been dispatched by now.) and next week also has Harvest Moon
Whitey's avatar
Whitey 3 years ago
Honestly, you shouldn't get a game before the release date any way. Some places only send them out 2 days before because first class is 1-2 days. But if you download a game, or buy it from a shop then you have to wait till release date so it should be the same if ordered online.
Zombieflamingo's avatar
Zombieflamingo 3 years ago
Well if it is a PC game you cant play it even if it is early (if it is through steam) I got Bioshock early and could not play that till release day. Xbox one were trying to go down that route but well you seen the backlash. It is always going to be the same with online ordering be its games, movies or CD. Unless they went for recorded delivery on everything but then we would all have to pay more for postage and so on.

I was thinking about getting an external hard drive for my PS3 as it hasn't got much storage space on it, due to PS Plus. I was wondering if there is anything I need to look out for when I get an external hard drive for it to be compatible with my PS3. Is there a specific type of hard drive anyone would recommend? I read on a website that people recommended a WD Mybook external hard drive.
