PayDay 3 sells 1.58 million copies

First-person shooter Payday 2 has sold 1.58 million copies, with 80 percent of sales coming from digital downloads.

The PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game had already turned a profit based on pre-orders alone.

Payday 2 was developed by Overkill Software, which is owned by Starbreeze, and published by 505 Games. The company has said that it's planning to turn it into a franchise if successful.

It seems like we'll see a PayDay 3 based on those sales numbers.

1.58 million doesn't really seem that many to be honest.

It wouldn't be for a big budget highly publicized game.

1.58 Million is a lot when you are smart with your money during the development process
