Japanese Charts, Sept 9 - 15: 3DS goes boom

3DS sales have rocketed this week in Japan, proving that whenever Monster Hunter is around, system sales will follow.

In fact, it seems like it's the Vita which has suffered, selling just over 6000 units while the 3DS LL sold a whopping 276,792 units when combined with sales of the 3DS. That's great sales for one week.

As for software, well Monster Hunter 4 sold 1,715,060 units, that's pretty impressive numbers, especially when compared to the number two game which sold a paltry 27,052 in comparison.

Would Monster Hunter for PS Vita revitalise the system? You bet it would, in fact it may even sell millions of Xbox One's if Microsoft decides to pay Capcom for a mega exclusive.

I don't get why people are buying the 3DS over the 3DSXL. (LL) Much better overall

I just bought a normal 3DS from ebay Noxy, don't insult my new(ish) console.. Kidding. Anyway it's a shame the vita isn't doing so well, but that's obviously because there aren't any games for it. I haven't heard anything new on the games from for like 3 months. That's bad...

Some people still prefer the overall portability and sleek design for the regular 3DS. I know I prefer the glossy texture of the original 3DS and always loved the DS Lite over any other Nintendo DS design. However, I do agree that when playing for long periods of time, the XL is much better for numerous reasons (more comfy to hold, longer battery life, bigger screens). It's just down to personal preference and maybe some people think that the cheaper cost of a regular 3DS makes it more worthwhile. Glad to see 3DS is killing it, anyway. I expect this to continue throughout the year when Pokémon is released as well.
