Latest Charts, w/e September 22: GTA V is top

This week's latest charts are in and there are no prizes for guessing that GTA V is this week's number one game.

GTA 5 sold 1.57 million units on it's first day, making it the UK's fastest selling game in history and generating Rockstar and publisher Take Two a barrel of money at the same time.

As far as stats go, GTA V is now the eleventh best selling Xbox 360 game ever and the tenth biggest PS3 title. The Xbox 360 version accounted for 57 per cent of launch week sales and the PS3 edition 43 per cent.

An stat is that GTA V bettered the launch sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops by almost 250,000 copies, that means, that total sales for the week must be at least over 2 million in the UK alone based on the fact that Black Ops sold around 2 million copies on its first week on sale.

As for the rest of the charts, PES 2014 takes second spot, while Sony's The Last of Us hangs around at number three. Saint's Row IV and Splinter Cell make up the top five.

Check out the top ten below

Here is this week’s UK top ten:

1. Grand Theft Auto V – Rockstar
2. Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 – Konami
3. The Last of Us – Sony
4. Saints Row IV – Deep Silver
5. Splinter Cell: Blacklist – Ubisoft
6. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition – Microsoft
7. Diablo III – Blizzard
8. Disney Infinity – Disney
9. Aliens: Colonial Marines – Sega
10. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix – Square Enix

Aliens will be selling somewhere for like £2.50 thats why it will still be there. Why is the 360 the worst version of GTA from what I have seen they both look the exact same.

I would think the 12 year olds would have the PS3 as it does not cost anything for online gaming :P The PS3 version is probably better because it is on 1 disc? The Xbox 360 version comes on 2 discs, and one to install to HDD, and the other can not be installed to HDD, but can be to flash drive unless you can forgive the graphical errors. Also apparently the discs are thinner than normal (probably to reduce costs for millions being made) and more prone to damage (which if you could install to HDD this would not happen as long as it was not damaged before fully installed). I have the Xbox 360 version but may get the PS3 digital download, or the Xbox 360 version if it gets On Demand - I find it funny that MS are in favour of DRM and digital downloads more so than Sony, yet it on the PS store for £50 but not yet on the Xbox marketplace. With MS now doing rewards for playing disc based versions, it seem MS are now pro-disc, and anti-DRM/digital whereas Sony are going DRM/Digital.

I wouldn't expect to find it on Games on demand anytime soon, the reason you can't install both disks to the HDD would prevent it.

You can install both discs to the HDD but it causes graphical errors. Apparently there is a patch coming to fix this.

It's on PS store for £50? WTF this is why digital games are not working on console. Why on earth would you pay £50 when Amazon sold it for £35. The only platform that does digital right is Steam.

That is why everyone is wary about Digital Only on consoles, nothing is stopping them selling everything at RRP

Though to be fair, Steam is not always that great, can't believe SR4 is £40 on Steam :/ should be about £25, £30 at most. Steam just seems so good because of their huge sales and deals like 4-packs and 2-packs on co-op games. They also have sales on every single day.

I can't believe when Acti has a sale on Steam they still mark all the COD's as 50% off. That seriously made me facepalm when that sale was up last week

you cant install both discs as the HDD can't read/write fast enough for both discs. install it to a USB if you really have to install it that much... or just play from the disc.... i'd love to see the justification for how its the worse version though, as the only difference ive seen is that plants have better detail on 360.

The colours do look a bit crisper on the PS3 but then that could be down to the TV that the picture was taken from.

It doesn't matter what TV you are using if the picture is from a recording

Not tv but the settings when you change them first loading up the game. I know what I meant :)

@Tony If MS are in favour of digital downloads then why is it that GTA 5 was not available to download/ pre-order day 1 on demand and is still not available? It's because MS doesn't allow day 1 digital downloads or pre-orders like the PS3 does, they never have and never will... Ironic you talk about GTA 5 being £50 on the PS Store. Yet games like Bioshock: Infinite and Metro: Last Light both cost £50 on demand. I can guarantee you that GTA 5 WILL cost £50 on demand when they get it, but by that point hardly anyone would care as most people would have bought/played the game by then. MS anti-DRM really? They were about to pull that trigger with the Xbox One...

£50 is the RRP for most retail games but stores like Shopto &Amazon discount the prices. I have been wondering, how does GTA V work as a digital download? Surely it would just be like you installed both 360 disks to the HDD & hence you would get a game with presentation problems

I would imagine if it was a digital download it would be like the PS3 version - all in one big download, and not divided up into HDD and disc. It would be worth them getting it done, especially in this case, as the game is worth it. I was not moaning about it being £50, I would even buy it for £50 from On Demand as the first and last Xbox 360 game to buy at those insane prices, despite having the disc version anyway (which I may consider selling). No need to worry about installing to flash drive and no need to worry about disc breaking as it has been reported that the discs are thinner than normal and prone to breaking. Otherwise I would be happy just playing from disc. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Keeps-crashing/forum/Fx2VFNOMN5OJVNP/Tx9TD8GXP57Y04/1/ref=cm_cd_fp_ef_tft_tp?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B0062KIC2A If a digital download can be done to get rid of this problem, then it would be worth, this once.

^ Yeah I know games cost £50 RRP and online retailers will usually discount them. Both Sony and MS should discount the digital versions as it makes no sense to pay more for the digital copy than a disc based copy. With the PS3 version you just download from the store it to your HDD and play it since it's on 1 disc. With the 360 you can install the second disc and play it but I heard it has issues when you do that and you're supposed to play it from the disc. The 360 version isn't available to download yet.

Also it would most likely be a big download like the PS3 version when it is available.

One of the main reasons that Digital on console is more expensive than retail is cos retail would be pissed if PSN & XBL were undercutting them
Whitey's avatar

I guess if MS and Sony did GTA digital for £35 then Amazon would do it for like £34.49 or cheaper if they feeling generous. Then people would say why is digital more expensive, so then MS and Sony would sell it digitally for £33.99 then Amazon would sell it for £32.99.. you get the idea. Guess that's why we have crap prices on digital because retailers would always undercut to get sales, otherwise no one would buy from them and they would go bust.

That being said, I don't see how they can justify charging more for a game when they don't have to spend money printing them on discs, shipping them out and other publishing costs, although I guess they still have to pay for the servers so people can download from them.

& retail don't give a crap about the PC market since it doesn't make them much money anyway. That's one of the reasons Steam is as big as it is

Amazon is now selling GTA V for £41.79. For Xbox 360 a flash drive is recommended to save the fragile discs, so the cost for game and flash drive comes to about £50 anyway. With Digital Download you do not need to worry about discs breaking. That link I posted above showed one person having 3 copies faulty, one from Amazon and two from Tesco, and another persons saying he and his room mate had faulty copies. It seems that the discs are thinner and more fragile than normal, so chances are quite high that more will end up being faulty faster if constantly playing them instead of being able to install them. After 30 days if they go faulty then will not be able to replace them and have to buy it again. With Digital download will not have to worry about this.
