Yoshida talks about PlayStation App; new screens

Sony has posted some new images and details on the PlayStation App, which launches alongside PS4 later this year.

Apparently the app will allow you to send messages to friends, compare trophies, view friends’ activity such as recorded or live-streamed gameplay on PS4 and access the PlayStation Blog. You'll even be able to purchase a game and when you get home it'll be downloaded on your PS4.

“It’s an application that anyone can download for free on iOS and Android devices,” Yoshida told the PS Blog. “There are a variety of things you can do with it. You can connect to your PlayStation profile, and send messages – even voice messages – to friends between your smartphone and PS4.

“A friend on PS4 can also send out an invitation for a multiplayer game, which you can then check on the App, and you can also purchase PS4 games from PlayStation Store. Your game will immediately start downloading while you’re away.”

The app also offers “second screen gameplay features,” which will be an optional for third party publishers to use.

“There are many big publishers creating their own apps for their games, like Watch Dogs or Battlefield, and that’s great,” Yoshida added. “But smaller developers can use PlayStation App to connect to PS4 and load an application, like drawing software for example, so that you don’t have to download and install a specific app on your smartphone.

“It’s open to all PS4 developers to use.”

The PlayStation App releases alongside the PS4 this November and will be available for free.

Would be a fool not to release one I say. Smartphones is everywhere nowadays and not everybody have or want a Vita.

Vita can only show content for PS Vita, PSP and PS One, while this app will show everything on the store as I understand.
