GTA V breaks seven world records following launch

GTA V has broken seven world records according to the Guinness Book of Records.

The Scottish-made game was released on September 17 and has broke records for the highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours and best-selling videogame in 24 hours.

GTA V also became the fastest entertainment property to gross $1billion and fastest videogame to gross $1billion.

Finally, the game also managed to break another three records as the highest grossing videogame in 24 hours and the best-selling action-adventure videogame in 24 hours as well as having the most viewed trailer for an action-adventure videogame.

“GTA totally deserves to be recognised as an icon of modern British culture, and we’re thrilled to be able to feature the game in the record books," said Guinness World Records chief Craig Glenday.

“Gaming is no longer a niche hobby, as GTA 5 has proved. I’m also doubly proud as a Dundonian to welcome this home-grown series back into the Guinness World Records.”
