We've already covered the launch titles coming to Xbox One
and now it's the turn of the PS4. While some may say this won't take long, in a way they are wrong, because despite many saying PS4's launch line-up is weak, it's far from it.
Let's just explain that comment. In terms of retail titles it's true that Sony only has two exclusive titles ready for the system. However it's also got its third party titles to lean back on, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, FIFA 14 and more. Now you may say that these are on Xbox One too, but just remember that PS4 is £80 cheaper, so if you are buying a system to play these type of games, your mind may be made up already. Anyway, that's just one reason, the other is that it's a marathon not a sprint and in this respect PS4 has a bright future ahead of it, with titles such as InFamous: Second Son, The Order 1886 and DriveClub, as well as unannounced titles such as those from Studio Santa Monica, Studio Japan, Naughty Dog, a new unannounced title from Guerrilla Games and more.
So with that in mind and a loyal fan base, it seems there isn't too much to worry about and then there are the titles still coming at launch, which when you add in the two retail exclusives and some of the excellent looking digital titles doesn't look so bad.
Here's a quick run down of our favourite highlights from the launch line up, followed by a full list of the games coming to PS4 at retail launch and titles being released digitally before the end of the year.
Retail (first party)
Killzone Shadow Fall
No doubt PS4's big launch hope, Killzone Shadow Fall is Sony's flagship title for the system. Not only does it look fantastic but it plays pretty great too. Guerrilla have always been masters of making the most of PlayStation systems and it seems to have worked it's magic once again here.
Not only will the game make use of the new features of the Dualshock 4, but it'll also allow players to share gameplay moments and connect with each others games with ease. What's even better is that it'll include an epic single player experience for gamers right from day one. Something that's often been missing from launch line up's of the past.
Mark Cerny's Knack is certainly a title that stands out from the crowd. Whereas having a adventure title aimed at children was probably a no brainer in the past, it seems like many have moved on, so releasing Knack could be a smart move. It's always wise to have a game aimed at the entire family and that just what Knack is. Having played Knack I can already tell that this will be a game I'll enjoy playing with everyone in the household. It's fun, looks great and is simple to pick up and get stuck into.
I can already sense the battles over the controller in my house this Xmas.
Resogun (Exclusive launch title)
People may focus on retail titles when it comes to a console launch, however failing to take notice of Resogun will be a big mistake. The spiritual successor to Super Stardust HD, Resogun is without doubt one of the best looking games to hit the PS4. Some of the effects just look stunning.
The game has a fairly simple premise, as you navigate along the left or right of the screen, taking out enemies from all angles. Not only is Resogun looking action packed, but it's challenging too, making it a title to really get your teeth into.
Make sure you watch the trailer below in 1080p if you can.
Counterspy (Launching 2013)
Slipping quietly under the radar is Counterspy, a single player title which sees you going after the enemy, trying to infiltrate their impregnable bases and undermine their mad military machines. To do this you'll have access to all manner of prototype weapons, which will also help you get through the hoards of enemies that the game throws at you.
What's great about Counterspy is that it's also coming to PS3 and PS Vita, giving you plenty of options for continuing your game, no matter what system you are playing on.
Hohokum (Launching TBC)
This is a title that certainly sticks out from the crowd. Hohokum, which is also coming to PS3 and PS Vita, is a colourful exploration based adventure game. Gameplay sees you control a space worm, flying around rescuing people from their city under distress. It seems the sort of game that you'll just sit back and relax with, letting time fly past as you enjoy it's easy on the eye graphics.
It's colourful, unique and a no doubt different experience altogether from the other titles.
Although we're still not 100% sure if it'll be arriving this year or not, we thought it was worth a mention as having played it at Eurogamer Expo we are totally smitten.
Here's a video which explains it best.
If you like Free-To-Play then PS4 is going to get off to a great start. Not only is the extremely popular DC Online Universe coming to PS4, but you'll also get access to Blacklight: Retribution, Warframe and War Thunder.
In addition to the FTP titles, the ever popular Minecraft finally makes its way to PlayStation, while PlayStation 3 classic Flower also makes it's upgraded debut on PS4.
Add in the addition of The PlayRoom, which comes free with all PS4 systems and the third party launch titles such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, LEGO Marvel Superheroes and Need for Speed: Rivals, and it's fair to say that the PS4 line up for 2013 isn't so bad.
