Need for Sales pushes Rivals from Wii and Vita

Need for Speed: Rivals isn't being released on Wii U or Vita due to the game not selling well on those platforms.

Speaking to TSA, Ghost Games' Craig Sullivan told the site that a lack of demand for the previous game, Most Wanted, mean't that when it came to choosing platforms from the follow us, both Wii U and Vita fell short.

"Honestly, it's not the kind of stuff that I like talking about in detail, that much. We did a load of extra work on the Wii U version [of Need for Speed: Most Wanted], and we had a lot of guys working on that stuff, you know?

"It didn't really sell that many, in terms of the Wii U market. I would love for it to have, because we put so much effort into that, trust me. I'd love for it to be way bigger than it was, and the same for the Vita.

"[Rivals] is going onto new hardware, and you have to work out where you focus your efforts," Sullivan said. "The 200 people working on this game are only capable of making so much, and doing so many different versions of the game, so we had to go with where we think the biggest audience will be for the game, and that's where we are."

So there we go. Are you disappointed that Rivals will not arrive on these platforms?

Is Ghost Games a rebranded Criterion, because they are talking like they made the Wii U version of Most Wanted when I'm pretty sure it was Criterion. Not bothered either way, Most Wanted was a big let down, open world racing is a bad idea, and making it so people can invade your single player game sounds even worse.

Most Wanted is a great, fun game. First great NFS for ages.

You must be confusing it with Hot Pursuit. Also, loving the NY Bus Simulator link on this, probably be more fun than rivals ;0

Nah, was Most Wanted, which was great fun. Looking round peoples trophy list on my PSN seems everyone enjoyed it too.

Everyone on your friends list anyway, in my experience feelings were quite mixed, definitely a step down after the superb Hot Pursuit.

Hot Pursuit was generally better received than Most Wanted too. http://www.gamerankings.com/browse.html?search=need+for+speed&numrev=3&site=

I bought the Xbox 360 version, got PC version free due to Sim City screw up, and then I even bought the Wii U version as well. But I doubt many would buy the Wii U version as well, so sales are bound to be low. Developers / Publishers have given up way to easily with Wii U. They should do Rivals for Wii U and then see what the sales are like when released all at once, I would buy the Wii U version instead of Xbox 360, if released at the same time.

It still got great ratings. Would be like saying all Mario games are letdowns as they aren't Super Mario 3

Why are they pulling down the Vita version?? It still sold nearly half a million copies despite the PS3 version being out at the same time. EA should have implemented the cross-buy cross-save feature for the PS3 meaning you get the Vita version for free like they did with Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault and Sly 4. Would have helped the sales..

Shame WiiU is such a barren console, its in that vicious circle of 'no games no sales' at the moment and if it doesn't do something quick enough it will become a death spiral.

Death spiral? Never going to happen, install base is growing with every major exclusive, the problem is the big publishers are taking poor sales of half arsed ports as being indicative of sales potential, even the good ports are failing because they are released too late for anyone to care about them.

I was going to get a wii u this year, just for Monster Hunter, but in the end I thought better of getting a console just for one game, I'll get one one day though when Nintendo show they have some good stuff behind them, maybe a decent Pokemon game on the Wii U or a new first party IP, all they seem to release is Mario and Luigi stuff, try something new please.
