Microsoft Studios hire Jonathan Ross as Executive Producer

Microsoft Studios has hired TV presenter Jonathan Ross to work on all things Xbox. Yeah, that's right. I really typed that. Eurogamer revealed the news that the appointment was announced by Phil Harrison at a gathering in London last night.

Jonathan Ross, seen here as a pirate.

Phil Harrison said the chat show host was hired to help "change our thinking".

"We wanted to bring in new talent that would challenge the way we build games and the way we think about what an audience is and what is entertainment," stated the Xbox exec, Harrison.

"We want to broaden the concept of gaming to maybe blur the distinctions about what is a traditional game and what is a traditional television programme and what is a traditional linear media.

"These devices and boxes now allow us to do that in a really meaningful way."

I'm sure that Jonathan Ross will bring meaningful work to all the Microsoft Games Studios teams.

I'm glad you pointed out he was dressed as a pirate, else I never would have guessed that ;-) Bad appointment, imho. Jonathan is known as a big gamer but I can only see this being a PR stunt. If he actually has influence I fear it will be in a bad way; in the whole "customer doesn't actually know what they want" kind of way. Still, hopefully I'll be proven wrong and he'll bring in the fresh ideas they're wanting.

No matter what you think of him as a person, Ross is a very talented man but I can't see how his presenting and general TV skills will translate into a video game experience. Very odd move by Microsoft... I just can't see the logic here. Its like the Xbone reveal all over again. I really don't understand this need to merge TV and games.

This might be just me but I think a better move would have been to get Vin Diesel (Big Gamer) and make the new Chronicles of Riddick game Exclusive, would make me buy a Xbox One

Very strange decision I know Jonathan made a mobile game recently but seems a big leap to working with a major console.
