GameStop Corp has today released a statement saying that its initial allocation of Sony PlayStation 4 consoles sold out and that a whopping 2.3 million customers are waiting for the devices.
Initial sales of the PS4 exceeded its predecessor, the PlayStation 3, by more than 80 percent in the first few days, executives of the Grapevine, Texas-based chain said today on a conference call with analysts. They also anticipate a large waiting list for Microsoft's Xbox One, suggesting a prolonged industry sales slump is ending.
“In addition to selling through all of our reservations and some additional allocation that we have received from Sony, we still have over 2.3 million customers on the First to Know List, which indicates continued demand for months to come.”
This is obviously brilliant news for the games industry and wow, '2.3 million' waiting according to Gamestop records alone? That's pretty incredible.
