Xbox One sells 150,000 units in first 48 hours on sale in the UK

It's being reported that Microsoft’s Xbox One sold around 150k units in its first 48 hours in the UK.

According to MCV, Xbox 360 sold 70k in the UK in the same period during it's launch, although figures released suggest Xbox One sold slightly over double this.

Apparently this makes the Xbox One just a few thousand units short of beating the Wii U’s total UK sales since it released a year ago this week.

With PS4 topping pre-order charts across the country, Sony will be expecting a strong launch for its own console in the UK when it arrives this Friday. So it could be that Wii U could soon be relegated to third place in the battle for the living room, leaving the real battle between Sony and Microsoft.

What can Nintendo do to grab some sales back?

Ah good, some figures we can truly compare when PS4 is released here. I do feel sorry for Nintendo and it really is unjustifiable that they're relegated to 3rd. Alas, they have the broad family appeal where as the other two consoles are geared towards hardcore gamers and fanboys of the shooter genre. That and the raw power behind the two new boys on the scene is so much greater than the Wii U, and too many people (myself included) are lured in by shiny graphics.

Not like Sony are perfect. PS Vita is doing poorly compared to how great 3DS is doing so even if Wii U stuck down to being 3rd home console, they got a number 1 as it is and to be honest, Nintendo lacks their own titles so I don't expect much happening for them until Mario Kart and Smash Bros is out.

Very impressive figures, especially given the hefty price tag. Almost matched the similarly priced PS3's launch numbers. Far cry from the mess launch the 360 had here. Also, some fun perspective for those mentioning Wii U: Xbox One is on course to sell more by the end of the week than the Wii U has sold in a YEAR. Nintendo are officially an irrelevance in the home console space now.

One for the fanboys I think. This time personally I've gone for the Xbox, I've always had both consoles and always preferred the Xbox. This time I'm giving the PS4 a miss, simply because I don't need 2 consoles. From what I've seen the games on both systems look pretty much the same.

The sales must be capped though considering the console is out of stock, can not sell more if out of stock! The Xbox ONE is currently the top preorder item on this site

" From what I've seen the games on both systems look pretty much the same." - This is most definitely not the case though. Even now at launch every multiplatform game looks and/or performs better on PS4 than on Xbox One. The differences will only get more pronounced from here on out as well. The PS4 is simply a significantly more powerful system.

but when joe posted on twitter about the xbox being out of stock, People stated when they went to the local game shop it was very much IN stock. One guy even sent a pic of a load stacked up. I went to asda yesterday and they had some also. I think every retailer got a certain amount of consoles and yes some stores may have sold up but there are still consoles available
