Call of Duty is most played multiplayer game on Next Generation consoles

Activision’s announced that Call of Duty: Ghosts is the number one Xbox One multiplayer game worldwide, while also becoming the No.1 top selling Xbox One title in retail sales in North America at retailers Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart.

The game is also number one in standalone Xbox One software retail sales in the UK (outside of games sold as part of Xbox One Bundles). Additionally, Call of Duty: Ghosts is the number one most played PlayStation 4 game and continues to be the  number 1 top selling PS4 title in retail sales in North America at Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart.

“Around the globe, Call of Duty: Ghosts is leading the next generation. It’s the  number1 selling title at key retailers and it’s also the most played game on Xbox One and PS4 globally,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. “As we’ve said before, we’ve got the best community of fans in the world and we’re thrilled they’re coming with us to the next generation.”

More than 1 billion multiplayer matches of Call of Duty: Ghosts already have been played across all versions. Ghosts’ players have Prestiged more than 2.2 million times, earning over 3.3 trillion Experience Points (XP), according to internal gameplay statistics.

Even though critics are saying that Call of Duty is slowing down in terms of interest, it sure doesn't look like it.

Are you a Call of Duty fan?

I'm a fan personally, primarily because I've played FPS for years and i'll always enjoy a series as long as the game is fun, don't care about how samey it is or whether or not it does something new and profound. People forget that despite the hate and despite Ghosts' mixed reviews, COD gets the numbers. Sure it's on its way out in terms of overwhelming popularity but numbers don't lie, people are playing this game and enjoying it, even though the media would have you believe that it sucks and everyone thinks so. It's rather confusing really...quite possibly the most popular game on earth seems to have no one to vocally support it

Played both this and BF4 on my Xbox One, and BF4 really is leaps and bounds ahead. I suppose they are fairly different, in that Ghosts is a straight up FPS, whereas BF4 offers more of a sandbox FPS experience, throwing in vehicles, 64 players and huge maps.
