Analyst says PlayStation 4 had 'most successful launch of all time'

Analyst firm DFC Intelligence has said that the PlayStation 4 had the most successful launch of any console to date.

According to the firm, by selling 2.1 million units since launch the PS4 has become the "world's biggest console launch."

“The initial success of the PlayStation 4 bodes well for its future. The PlayStation 2 and Wii went on to be the best selling console systems ever. DFC Intelligence does not believe that the PlayStation 4 will surpass those systems but reiterates its forecast that the PS4 will be the number one system of this generation,” the firm said.

Microsoft announced yesterday that Xbox One managed 2 million sales in the same period, although DFC believes that Microsoft's console will have a more limited appeal over time.

What do you think of this? Are analyst's all talk, or do they have a point?

To us it doesn't really matter which system sells the best, as long as both have a healthy user base then it'll be good news for gaming. We don't want one system to run away with all of the sales as competition is good for innovation.

Well what I have learned this week is analysts are a waste of time and money. This week we have now had the story that the Ps4 was outselling Xbox by 66% then that they are neck and neck and now this story. I think the analyst that was stating that they are neck and neck also predicted Xbox would out sell PS4 3 to 1 a few months ago.

PS4 appeals to gamers because of the lower price point ( ie being able to choose camera or not ! ), a more powerfull system, better build quality and a trusted brand. Microsoft has big quality issues and tries too hard to plug other media, Sony has made mistakes but has learned from them and made the PS4 a gaming machine first and foremost. I loved the first xbox but the 360 was a rush job with so many flaws they were effectively broken from the start and this appears to be happening already with the new console. Sony will be here for years to come but Microsoft keep keep making bad business choices like buying nokia and even they will run out of money eventually. Sony back as No1 and staying there by the looks of it.
