Call of Duty: Ghosts sales are 'troubling' says analyst

Activision’s Call of Duty: Ghosts is the top selling next generation game as well as being the number one game in the charts, however according to Cowen & Company’s Doug Creutz, the 19 per cent sale drop that Activision has seen compared to Black Ops II is a little worrying.

“Upon further reflection, we think the [Call of Duty] numbers are a bit more troubling than they first appeared,” Creutz stated in an article found via Venturebeat. “While the year-over-year gap is only 19 per cent thus far, that includes two extra weeks of sales for the 360 and PS3 versions [of Black Ops II].

“Against 2011’s [Modern Warfare 3], where the difference is only one week, the title is down 32 per cent life-to-date.

“We don’t think it is out of the question that the title could wind up comparing down 20 per cent to 25 per cent year-over-year [to Black Ops II], which is appreciably worse than the down 10 to 15 per cent that we think is baked in to guidance.”

Activision already stated that it expected sales to be slower thanks to the release of PS4 and Xbox One and it's fair to say that Ghosts is not the only game to suffer, with sales of Battlefield, Assassin's Creed and FIFA also down.

So what do you think? Should Activision worry, or is the drop in sales more to the release of new consoles?

What do you expect none of the games listed are new titles it's about time they came up with some new titles and £50 far a game is a rip off.

I agree, if u look at some of RRP prices for preorders they are asking upto £70 for some titles & there not special or enhanced versions of the games either! Do they think we are just cash-cow's & they can keep putting the prices up & up? By 'they', I mean the publishers not the retailers like shopto.net, it's the publisher's who make the killing in the games trade!! Robbing basta*ds!!

No wonder sales are down if the unit Cost goes UP ,the more expensive the title, the fewer sales are going to be made. Logic dictates this! Stack em high, sell them cheap! This STILL works today!

The only troubling thing about CoD sales is why anyone still buys it?
Gloria 1 year ago
People buy it for the simple feeling of accomplishment, even if that feeling is easily earned

That's the troubling thing.

It's sad when the conversion from dollar to pounds is way off the mark & Europe / UK gets stiffed.... Also can't understand why download copies are the same price... I do believe Battle Field 4 has hit CoD Ghosts hard as BF4 is a simulation game and Ghosts is arcaded.... More adults are going for BF4 to filter out kids playing the game as the age protection can't be reversed when set up at source, but CoD is accessable to whoever puts the disc in...

Anything over £40 for a game is a rip off.. £55 for games for the xbox one in a lot of places is just plain insane! £55 for BF4 etc in GAME/HMV and £45-48 in supermarkets next door.. even that is bloody expensive for a game they'll want you to buy DLC for. Count BF4 - £55 for the normal edition, plus £40 for Premium(DLC) = £95 for one game!

I cant believe it but i actually agree with Gloria .COD needs a complete overhaul but my guess is there scared because the sales would drop way more that what they are at the moment..People still buy it though not for its quality but habit . BF 4 had its issues but its far superior in every way

I agree with everything, COD sucks, and next gen games are over priced. £40 is acceptable, £45 is pushing it, £50 is a joke and £50+ is an insult. (Not counting special editions of course).

Stop pretending and lower your prices! £40 is too much but people would take that! It's time to rally up and get prices dropped like in the ps1 days when they went down to 30. £50 + is silly its limiting spending. Drop to 40 and people will increase sales of several titles not just cod. They would be more likely to buy two or more

because people are getting board with the same old shit year after year .its still modern warfare repackaged

The price is the only problem......All games are too expensive.... 39,99 ? should be max.

Sadly when everyone wants more powerful hardware that drives up development costs and subsequently game prices, if you wanted super powerful consoles you can't really complain that the games are more expensive.

In the grand scheme of things, I don't think £50 for a blockbuster AAA game is expensive (not including added DLC). When you consider these games cost the same/more than some Hollywood movies (GTA V = £170M. Terminator 2 = $100M)
