Steam Machine gets online brochure

Valve has posted up a brochure showing off the prices of the various 'Steam Machines' which will release from multiple manufacturers later this year.

Prices seem to range from $499 all the way up to $6000.

Give that there are so many options, could it be that this will confuse consumers? After all, when you purchase a console you know that you are evenly matched with anyone else who buys it and developers know the specs everyone has under their TV.

With Steam Machine there seems to be so many options and some are so expensive that it seems it'd be more sensible to go out, buy a PC and hook that up to your TV. Can anyone actually seem this venture being a success?

Completely defeats the point of a console really, a level playing field of standardized hardware, may as well just go with a PC.

not with that controller though, the buttons just dont fit with it, you would be stretching your thumbs over the controller to hit y and b, and im not into touch analogues, not my thing at all, but bet some will enjoy it , ill stick to ps and nintendo thanks

Yeah I thought the whole point was to make one that would play most games but connected to a TV to rival the consoles, it just seems confusing having so many models of it.

I highly doubt it will confuse consumers, it's exactly like buying a Console except you get to decide which specs you want.

You do know that you could just use your 360/PS3 controller since most games support it right? & the once that aren't are best played with the K&M combo anyway

It should be fairly simple. Buying PCs for games can be quite complex, as some are designed just to be basic and just deal with Microsoft Office, and the internet, and not cope well with games. These Steam boxes are designed specifically to play games, and you just spend on which one you want to be the best, depending on your budget. $499 ones will be able to play the games, but will make the game look basic, spend $6000 and your ears and eyes will be blown away with stunning sound and graphics, and be in gaming heaven.

The Steam Box isn't for PC Gamers, it's for people who are interested in PC Gaming but are overwhelmed with the choices on offer

There is no point in building the the latest and greatest PC since most games won't use the extra power so it is just wasting money. Just go for a Mid/Low-Mid build and upgrade as you see fit

If you listen to the video, Jay built a PC for $400 that could run Battlefield 3 on mid to high settings (It is a somewhat old video)

But you don't NEED to run Battlefield 4 on Ultra do you? Plus the game is a mess on PC right now
