ShopTo triples console market share

ShopTo is pleased to announce that we have had our most successful year on record.

The turnover for the previous financial year has been met in just five months and it's all thanks to you, our loyal customers.

According to Chart-Track, figures show that we have tripled our console market share and almost doubled our share of the software market at the same time.

“We had fantastic support from the format holders, which allowed us to break all our previous records,” said our purchasing director James Rowson.

“We have achieved last year's turnover in five months of this financial year, which is a measure of the growth we have never seen.

“Demand is still high for PS4, Xbox One and their games. And pre-orders are huge for the amazingly strong looking triple-A titles in 2014.”

None of this would be possible without you, our loyal customers. So thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

lower your shipping cost for europe please.....3 pounds for each game is too much......
JoeToots's avatar
JoeToots 3 years ago
3 pound to ship all over europe seems resonable to me, if i wanted to ship a game even around the UK it'll cost me £2.30 so you arn't really getting hard done by.

yeah but not each game.....from zavvi 0 no shipping cost, from game or gamescenter 2-2,95 for more games etc..... so gotta always check sum prices where to order :)

Maybe when your LOYAL customers buy consoles they should get shopto points Personally i spent over 1k and because they were 2 bundles with 4 games i have 0 points . No wonder you had a good year

@jijai, the profit margin % on the new consoles was much lower than for say, a game. Reward points would probably completely wipe out any profit and even cause a loss from silver and gold members. I'm very happy as shopto gave me fifa14 for £44 on release day, then a few weeks later shopto emailed me offering ac4 black flag for £40 as a thank you for buying a ps4 (cant say about X1 buyers but I wouldnt be suprised if the did a similar deal). I also have a pre-order of Infamous SS (now selling for £55) for less than £50 thanks to price promise. :) But what has really impressed me is that, while not meeting the criteria for silver membership, they have kept giving me it anyway, I like to think its because I have over 1k in total orders. Shopto is the best! It is not surprising you go from strength to strength.

Apparently they stopped doing points on consoles late 2012, but I still got points for the Wii U early 2013, and the new design Xbox 360 with free FIFA in Sep, which was deceptive and made me think I be getting points for the xbox ONE, but then nothing for the Xbox ONE and a Zelda 3DS. Had I known they were not doing points I would have gotten the latter 2 from GAME. Although it was not easy preordeing a Xbox ONE so may have had to have gotten it from ShopTo anyway, but if I get a PS4 this year or next year (2015) then I will get it from a GAME store. If anything goes wrong with it I can just take it back and be dealt with same day. With ShopTO you have to send in ticket, wait for response, then wait for a courier to pick it up or post it off, and then wait for it to be repaired / replaced. 2013 was not a good year where ShopTo was concerned for me, 1) 2 items went missing in the post which no other item has gone missing from a UK online retailer (excluding rental services) since about 2006, and if you check the reviews on Trustpilot the most common complaint is items lost in post. 2) One of the items was too good to be true, one day I was browsing the retailers looking for a game, and ShopTo was out of stock, then I went to other retailers and they were too expensive or out of stock, and then I come back to ShopTo a couple of hours later and they have stock of it, but was too expensive, and then had some more search around the internet for a better price, but could not find one, and then went back to ShopTo to maybe buy it and believe it or not it was cheaper. It was like ShopTo knew what I wanted, and it was great, but then it did not turn up and got lost, and got refunded after about 3 weeks. Afterwards it made me think that ShopTO put spyware on your computer to see what you want then put a dummy item up for sale, so they could borrow money interest-free for 3 weeks. It also did not have a picture of the parcel either, although other items did not have photos but still dd not get lost, but makes it convenient 3) I preordered Enemy Within, and it got bundled with the Xbox ONE, but when the Xbox ONE arrived, it was not in there, and then I spend 25 mins on the phone getting though to CS and finish the call before 17:15 and item still was not shipped out. 4) Points on games bundled with consoles do not seem to get allocated either and have to send in ticket to get missing points, otherwise they get away with not giving any points 5) Before Christmas I sent in tickets for various queries, and they just focussed on one of the issues, and ignored the rest, and when I sent in another ticket to get the unanswered queries answered, they shut down the ticket without reply. 6) The latest thing is I bought a game on Friday, and due to stock discrepancy, the order was cancelled as it was not in stock, and they have a full refund to my shopto account and not back to how I paid for it, so I now have insufficient funds to buy the game elsewhere. 7) The site is seriously messed up, errors and slows down to non responsive and it took 30 mins to preorder the Xbox ONE. Shopto have been great before 2013, and I have only been going back to them because I had 3 great awesome years, but now it is getting beyond it, and will use them as a last resort. Amazon have been hit and miss, but they have been pretty good in 2013, with a couple of free months to Prime, and preorder a game and you get 1st Class, and so have GAME despite high cost GAME exclusive versions. On Day ONE of Xbox ONE I received 2 games I preordered from GAME, and AC 4 Black Flag from Amazon for only £48 on Day ONE, yet the ShopTo game did not arrive until Day Two. Shopto have been good at getting games out and received the next day (as long as it does not get lost), but my last 2 orders here have been delivered by 3 day service (2nd class) and not 1st class. They must have changed the default delivery options. ShopTo have certainly been losing it, and I hope they get their mojo back in 2014.

I'm with TONY here, Shopto have went downhill in terms of delivery. I've had 3 games go missing in the post, and have had to wait 1 month for a replacement for one, and 4 weeks for a refund on the other two. That's out of my last 5 orders so it isn't looking good. I tried to talk to them about it but they just put up the same stance of 'can't do anything for 2 weeks' but forget to mention it is working days rather than just 14 days. Used to be worth it for cheaper games then it was better service, now it just seems to me that I'd rather shop at Amazon as they know how to deal with this.

Also I'd like to add shopto seem to no longer be cheapest on pre orders which is a shame!

In regards to price: Amazon do not use 1st class delivery like ShopTo. Amazon do not give reward points. Being a huge multinational retailer, Amazon have more bulk purchasing discounts than shopto, yet they do not pay the corporation tax that they should. Apart from the tax, I like Amazon but imo, the cheapest is not always the best way to go. As for the missing items, Luckily I havn't had that problem but I personally know someone who has had it happen, but surely its royal mails fault? If this happened to most customers then shopto wouldn't have almost doubled their market share for games.

ShopTo are no longer using 1st class, but 2nd class (as default at least), they may even be charging for 1st class now, or may do in the future. Amazon do not use points but at least you are aware of that fact. The thing that annoyed me is that they were doing points and then pulled them. They say it ended late 2012, but I still got them up to Sep 2013, so thought they were still doing points. If I knew for sure the were not doing points I would have got my Xbox ONE at a GAME store, and been there for a midnight launch etc. This time last year I would have said I had a flawless 3 years service, and have been using ShopTo since 2009, but the trouble started in 2013. If the parcels got lost when I first started using them I would have ditched them there and then, but because they have given me 3+ problem-free years, I just shrugged it off and kept giving them the benefit of the doubt, but every time I bought something in 2013 and now 2014 I come away with a bad taste in my mouth, and I stick with them then it will be like a battered wife syndrome. How many years have you had ZERO problems? Also if you do not buy much then less chance of things going wrong. They probably treat their new customers with care, and make sure nothing gets lost, but do not take so much care with the loyal customers, as think we will shrug off the bad stuff and keep on buying. Nifty scam if you think about it. It could also be that they are now on top and have little to prove, years ago they were not much and did every thing they could to be awesome.

Same story here past two orders have been lost in the post and now waiting for the 14 day so i can claim which i know will just be trouble had a game missing from my ps4 order took 3 weeks and 4hrs on the phone just to get a replacement been a loyal customer for years spending nearly £3000 in the last 4 years and its going down hill fast i have since canceled most of my preorders and will now shop else where at least game and amazon orders turn up on time , when shop to are good in profits think of us loyal customers who have been done out of our hard earned money

Speaking for myself I cant say I have noticed if it says 1st or 2nd class on the parcel. As for items being late so far I have had everything turn up either on day or before and I am at 99 completed orders. With Game I have not had anything late but sometime I have not had a despatch email and had the item turn up anyway. Not too keen on amazon fro my games as I have had a few orders come late.

As for console points, I got them on my wii U at the end of Nov 2012 but not my 3DSXL at the beginning of Jan 2013 so I asume they stopped about then.

@ TONY in reply to your question, 5 years (first order was Killzone 2 limited edition in February 2009, got free upgrade to limited edition and came 2 days early!), and total orders shows £1,5001.30 As for delivery, make sure that default delivery is set to 1-3 days (1st class). My AC4 black flag got dispatched 23rd and arrived 24th, so much for posting deadlines!

Beeje first of all amazon now offer free 1st class on all pre orders secondly the points argue is invalid to the extent that the difference in price is much higher than the points given, take tomb raider for example £49 here £37 on amazon.

My default in options is set to 1-3 but somehow switched to 3 days. It has only affected my last 2 orders for the past week, but not before, so if you have not ordered anything in the last week then would not have happened to you anyway. I just went to order a game just now to see and it was 1-3 in the basket, but I did not notice what it said before on those other 2 orders as just assumed it was set on 1-3. as I never touched it. If you look at your orders in your account it will see how it was sent under TRACK, my orders for 7th Jan and 10th Jan say SECOND CLASS, whereas every single order before then is either courier with tracking number or FIRST CLASS. If they made profits in the last year then why now do 2nd class, but do 1st class when they were getting less. I just also tried ordering today the AX120 Headset for Xbox 360, and that only gives 2nd class or DPD. I bought the same headset on 12th May 2013 and it was sent 1st class. It seems to be hardware that is 2nd class now, no option for 1st class the item I ordered on 7th Jan was hardware, but the item on 10th Jan was the one that got cancelled due to ShopTos stock discrepancy, so maybe that was it, and if it was in stock may have sent first class.
