3DS has sold 11.5 million units in the U.S alone

Nintendo has announced 3DS game sales were up 45% in 2013, compared to last year, while 3DS hardware sold over 11.5 million units in the US alone.

The entertainment giant says that customers purchased a whopping 16 million Nintendo 3DS games in 2013 (digital and retail combined).

In addition to the above, Nintendo has announced release dates for Yoshi’s New Island and Disney Magical World. Yoshi will arrive on March 14, while Disney Magical World lands on April 11.

It seems the Nintendo 3DS continues to go from strength to strength and it's no wonder given the quality of the software on offer.

I don't own a 3ds but this is especially amazing news as some 'analysts' continue to proclaim that console gaming in general, never mind just portable, is being pushed out of the way by Phones and Tablets. Complete tosh.

This is amazing news. People always say portable consoles can't compete with consoles and are going to be outdated by tablets, phones but this shows that they aren't even close to being outdated. It might show that people can get into gaming through non traditional iteams like phones and tablets. Maybe you play a game on a phone and get into gaming so move onto better gaming machines by either a 3ds, ps vita and then maybe you then might move onto a console. I think people have got this whole outdated thing wrong. More people are getting into gaming who didn't before such as older people.
