3DS was top selling console in U.S for December

Microsoft's new Xbox One was the bestselling next generation console in the United States during the month of December, according to NPD Group data, selling more than 908,000 units, although Sony argues that overall PS4 is still the best selling console and hints that figures could be misleading due to PS4 being out of stock for most of the month.

"PlayStation 4 remains the cumulative leader for next gen console sales in the U.S. since the launch on November 15. We sold every PS4 available at retail in the U.S. and were out of stock in December due to overwhelming consumer demand."

While this is great for both platforms, it was the Nintendo 3DS which was the bestselling video game system for the month. The system was also the best selling of the year, meaning that Nintendo now has 11.5 million units in the hands of the public in the U.S alone.

On the software side, NPD reports that the bestselling games during the month of December were Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and Just Dance 2014, although the best selling game of the year was Grand Theft Auto 5.

Weather the PS4 is sold out or not doesn't really matter, the fact is the XB360 sold more in December and that Sony messed up by not having enough consoles and lost sales.
