Xbox One ships 3.9 Million units to retail

Microsoft shipped 3.9 million Xbox One consoles to retail in the five weeks after launch, while 3.5 million Xbox 360 consoles shipped during the three months ending December 31.

"Our Commercial segment continues to outpace the overall market, and our Devices and Consumer segment had a great holiday quarter," said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft.

"The investments we are making in devices and services that deliver high-value experiences to our customers, and the work we are doing with our partners, are driving strong results and positioning us well for long-term growth."

This information was revealed during the companies latest earning call, all of which sees sales of Xbox consoles help generate a 14 per cent year-on-year increase in revenue, with Q2 revenue currently around $24.52 billion.

Sony had announced that it had sold 4.2 million PS4 units to consumers during 2013 and claimed lack of stock stopped it from selling more, specifically in the U.S. Meanwhile Xbox One was often is stock and at last count had sold to consumers around 3.1 million units.

It does appear that both consoles continue to sell very well and will both companies estimating around 5 million units sold by March 2014, both seem to be well on target.

I think there's a typo. It should be "the company's latest earning call", right? As for the numbers, pretty impressive considering the ps4 hype.
