Call of Duty to be developed in three year cycle by three separate developers

Call of Duty will continue to be released once a year, although the series is being shaken up a little thanks to the arrival of Sledgehammer Games to the fold.

In a post-release conference call to investors, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said that Sledgehammer will join both Treyarch and Infinity Ward in developing games for the series, meaning that each developer will have three years to create their version of the game.

This new system will see Sledgehammer release the 2014 Call of Duty game which Kotick himself said will be "one of if not the best” Call of Duty game ever. Strong words.

As you'd expect, combining North American and European sales, Call of Duty was the second best-selling franchise, only failing to hit the number one spot due to the mammoth that is Grand Theft Auto V. Adding in the sales of Skylandsers, which was the third best selling game for the quarter, Activision came away with a net income of $174 million for the quarter, with early revenue standing at $4.5 billion.

Activision says that it expects Destiny to become its next Billion dollar franchise. Oh how we would mind some of that money.

Just let it die on it's own instead of flogging it to death.

Why would they let it die, when it makes so much money? Anyway the extra year to work on the game can't be a bad thing. They can add more content and polish.

Fine by me since the only COD games I find even remotely fun are the ones made by Treyarch

Quickest way to see this series exit is if people stopped buying it, I don't buy it, Call Of Duty is always lackluster every single year. It's terrible *sigh*

The problem is that it has come to the point that Acti make more money from selling the Map Packs than they do from Retail so even if we all stop buying them the people who only buy the Fifa's & COD's will still be shelling out for the Map Packs. Call of Duty is going nowhere soon

Dunno why people want this game to leave. If it's not your taste, don't buy it. Just let others buy it that enjoy it and be done with it.

The way I see it Call of Duty is slowly killing the Industry since the majority of its Fanbase play nothing else, which it turn mean more games chase those sales figures & then more games flop. I'm not hating on the series since I do enjoy the Treyarch offerings but the series has become too popular

Sledgehammer helped develop MW3 with the real Infinity Ward team ,so there no strangers to the series which IMO is not good .COD is totally dead it needs more than this .I wont buy another COD game until its changed drastically .Its the same game with different visuals, even then its sometimes the same visuals as proven by the ending of ghosts and the last IW offering

I'm guessing that comment was towards me Whyte? I never said it wasn't my taste, i did buy Killzone: Shadow Fall after all. It looks like most of the people here are not happy to see another Call Of Duty game. I fully agree with Nox, their are a few people i know who think games like Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Rayman and more are for kids (ironic as some of the demographic are kids themselves), they only buy COD every year and that's it, it's all they talk about and it's not just them the main demographic is like this. It's ruining sales expectations of games and when they fail they don't bother with sequels. People can enjoy it yes and people can buy what they want i don't care about that, however IMO it should go, we have many shooters already, COD is hurting the industry and platformers are getting hit the most which sell quite bad nowadays. I have no hopes for the future of platformers as long as the main demographic buys into COD yearly. Also let's face it COD is basically the same thing every year with minimalist changes just re skinned and then people will still buy it regardless *sigh*.
