PS4 sales surpass 5.3 million units to consumer, as of February 8

Sony has announced that it's sold 5.3 million PS4 units to consumers worldwide, as of February 8.

The press release couldn't be any clearer, with Sony stating that, "the PS4 has cumulatively sold through more than 5.3 million units 1 around the world as of February 8, 2014, and is continuing to demonstrate strong growth and momentum."

Andrew House, President and Group CEO of SCE said of the news, "I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season.

"We are delighted that according to the NPD Group's latest data, PS4 was January's top-selling console in the United States. The PS4 system's momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation fans. February 22 sees the launch of PS4 in Japan, and I'm looking forward to Japanese fans sharing the excitement of the deep social capabilities and entertainment experiences only possible on PS4."

PS4 sales data was collected in North America and Latin America from 15/11/2013 – 8/2/2014. Europe and Asia collected 29/11/13 – 8/2/2014.

5.3 Millions already and they ain't even out in Japan before Saturday :) I really hope my Co-worker gonna enjoy his PS4 with Infamous Second Son :)

Its good that they have done really well and it is also good that there is a decent gap between the PS4 and the xbox one. It just means microsoft will have to try harder to bridge the gap.
