Square registers trademark for Shinra Company in Japan


Square Enix has registered a trademark for the term Shinra Company in Japan.



Gamers may know the name, as it's a power company from Final Fantasy VII, which supplies Mako energy to the world, although was also known for it genetic engineering and space exploration abilities.

Siliconera reports that the term has been specifically registered "for use in video games".

So what are Square up to then? We'll they are not remaking Final Fantasy VII, as it's creator already said that would take some doing. But perhaps we will soon be seeing some sort of spin-off? Maybe Final Fantasy VII told from a different perspective (that was just a guess, total speculation and probably way off the mark).

Who knows what this means, but it'll certainly be interesting once we find out.

I imagine they're are going to use this in FF14, similar to the fact they're making the Golden Saucer for it now.
