Watch Dogs on Wii U 'on hold' for shipping, may arrive in 2014

Dominic Guay, senior producer on Watch Dogs has told Polygon that although the game is still very much in development for Wii U, at the moment it's on hold for shipping.

"We don't have a specific ship date for it yet so it's considered within the year," he said. "So we're going to look at that and we're going to let people know as soon as we figure out an exact date for it."

As explained by Guay, Ubisoft Montreal is not actually working on the Wii U version of the game, instead that falls to another team.

"We have our studio in Bucharest working on it, and we wanted that team to have the time to explore the GamePad and be able to have fun with it and see how far they could push it," he said. "It's also an interesting platform, because it has its own strength, which we want to take advantage of, and we didn't want to delay all the other platforms for that one. So we're going to take the time we need to make sure the game is good (technically) when we ship it and that it also, game design-wise, makes good use of the specifics of the Wii U."

What do you think of this news?

If I get it. It'll be on Wii U. If only cus I promised myself I would buy it for that. If it's cancelled or sub-par. Too bad Ubisoft, you don't get my money. Again. (not that it'll matter to them of course.)

"we didn't want to delay all the other platforms for that one" - what like you did with Rayman Legends? That aside this press release sounds like they are taking the Wii U seriously in regards to it's USP. Hopefully it is the definitive version of the game, much like Rayman and Deus Ex.

Hopefully. You can add Splinter Cell Blacklist to that

I actually like this news - if it is true!! I pre-ordered on the wii u and no matter what will get it there (I have a beefy gaming PC but i love the gamepad and offscreen, plus PC games go down to almost nothing in steam sales so I'll buy it on there then!) I like that they say they have delayed it to explore the gamepad and give it extra features. If it comes out and its just another map or inventory then thats rubbish, but if they implement it in there like in deus ex where I can no longer play it on the PC due to the gamepad being so well designed for the game, then thats awesome. I would rather games are delayed on the Wii U for the purpose that the gamepad will have enhanced features, off screen is supported, the frame rates are stable and the base game is complete (dlc like costumes are pointless but story dlc would be loved) and the game to feel like care has gone into it, rather than a quick port just because the other consoles have it out. The Wii U isn't like the other consoles due to its pad, so its clearly going to be worked on differently unless you are happy with a non-interactive map or an inventory which can just as easily be obtained by pressing start (+)

Gearbox said the same kinda things about colonial marines on the Wii U, ok that game was awful but i don't believe them, Wii U deserves way more love than it gets off 3rd party developers.
