Xbox Stereo Headset requires you to update Xbox One controller's firmware

If you have purchased the latest Microsoft stereo headset then please be aware that you'll need to update your controller’s firmware.

Luckily, this is a rather easy thing to do, so here is how:

  1. Open the battery compartment on the back of the controller and remove the batteries.
  2. Plug the Stereo Headset Adaptor into the bottom of your controller.
  3. Plug in a headset (a headset is required to be plugged in so the adaptor will turn on).
  4. Plug the big end of the included USB cable into the port on the side of the console.
  5. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the top of the controller.
  6. Instructions to install the update should automatically be displayed. Follow the instructions, and don’t disconnect the USB cable while the update is in progress.
  7. When the update is complete, unplug the USB cable and put the batteries back into your controller.
  8. Press the Xbox button on the Wireless Controller to turn it on. Your controller is now up-to-date, and you’re ready to use your Xbox One Stereo Headset Adaptor.
  9. Note: You only need to update your controller one time, but if you plan to use the Stereo Headset Adaptor with other Xbox One Controllers, you’ll need to do this process for each controller.

You can also update it from the settings menu :) still requires a USB cable though. at least its an ordinary everyday cable this time!

Has anyone had a problem with the pad crashing since they installed the update for the Stereo Adapter? Twice now the audio has hung resulting in a "durrrrrrrrrrr" sound and the pad stops responding in game, once the guide button was still working so I was able to power the pad off and on. The other time I had to remove the power pack from the pad then power the pad back up. Never had this problem since launch but had it twice since I updated and started using the Stereo Adapter.

Cant say I have had that problem and I have done both my controllers. You should chef the official forums to see if anyone has had an issue.

Cheers. I found this post on the forums seems like a common problem since the chat adapter update. http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_support/xbox_one_support/f/4269/t/1712178.aspx
