Microsoft: Xbox One controller will work with PC in the future

There have been plenty of rumours going around that Xbox One controllers would not work with PC, however Microsoft's Albert Penello has moved to quash this speculation.

"This is 100% wrong," Penello wrote on Neogaf. "When the drivers become available, they will work with the existing controllers. There is no plan to do a new, separate controller that only works on Windows. It will be the same as it is on Xbox 360 - the Xbox One controller you have today will work.

“That’s not to say that we may not ship also PC SKU of the Xbox One controller, much like we do on Xbox 360.”

Penello also added that the wired controllers would work as standard, while adding that the wireless option is something Microsoft are currently looking into.

Surprised to see Penello still posts on GAF. He seemingly stopped posting a few months ago after being caught out bullshitting a couple of times in the run up to the Xbox One launch.

They have Windows inside Xbone and still they need to create "special" drivers for Windows-based computers so controller would work. WTF?? Sony's DS4 works with PCs from the start FFS!!

You can get a Xbox 360 controller for cheaper than a Xbox One controller and if you really want a next gen controller get a DualShock4, it work now

Not sure how a wireless one (PS or Xbox controller) works with PC without some receiver in PC. I just have a wired Xbox 360 controller for my PC. Unless the games take advantage of the Xbox ONE controller (eg the trigger rumbles) then may as well just stick with Xbox 360 controller. If I am going to get next gen it will be the Xbox ONE controller. I have not seen one PC game yet that supports the PS controller, only the Xbox.controller I have always found the PS controller weird from the very beginning. It never has felt right - too small, and I find the triangle, square, circle and X not normal. I much prefer the use of X, Y, Z, A, B that Sega used, and Nintendo and Xbox use. Also the trigger buttons on the PS controller are just big fat buttons, and don't feel like triggers, like the Dreamcast or Xbox controllers

"If I am going to get next gen it will be the Xbox ONE controller." - which isn't working with PC. Brilliant. Your diagnosis, sir, is clear: Xbone of the brain :p

I already have a Xbox ONE controller, Duh! And soon it will work, which this news articles is going on about. If PC games support the PS controller, then may have to decide, but currently games are optimised for only the Xbox controller.
