It makes you wonder what would of happened if Microsoft got there way with DRM this is probably the first game with a very short life.
JoeToots's avatar
JoeToots 3 years ago
i wish Microsoft would of gone the way of DRM personally.
Bindiana's avatar
Bindiana 3 years ago
How come Joe? Why do you think it would of been good for you?
JoeToots's avatar
JoeToots 3 years ago
Because you know what i'm like for buying selling and buying back games that'd eliminate all that and in the long run it would of saved me money.

Games for the weekend. I'm hopefully going to finish of Infamous Second Son today, pretty decent title but don't know if I'm the only one but it has left me feeling a little flat, maybe I over hyped it for myself. Going to give MGS a go, hearing good things about this even though it's very short then back onto Titanfall and try and get some challenges done.
Bindiana's avatar
Bindiana 3 years ago
Fair enough Joe but how would you of felt if you bought Titanfall for £45 and didnt like it and then could do nothing with it?
JoeToots's avatar
JoeToots 3 years ago
Id feel it was my own fault. I'm only talking personally i know over the grand scale of things it's bad but for me personally it would of been good.
Bindiana's avatar
Bindiana 3 years ago
Fair enough Joe alway good to get other peoples views on it some of what they were proposing had its benefits like not having to change disc everytime you wanted to play something different. The friend sharing thing could of been interesting but dont think it would of worked as people were making out.

but the storage on the xbone is rather poor.

Bindiana, being a collector and all, if you bought an xbone and loads of games for it as you have with other consoles, how do you think the whole drm and non game swapping/selling thing would've afftected their value say 10-20 years down the line?
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
20 years down the line most servers for the Xbox would be offline so you would only have paperweights. Only the most Diehard collectors would buy them but the value wouldn't be that high

or a whole load of Frisbees
Bindiana's avatar
Bindiana 3 years ago
Yeah as Nox says there will be no Value to them as no one will be able to play them. They will just have to download them on there xbox 4 and PS8's. I am not sure there are going to be many 360 and PS3 games that are going to have much value 10 years down the line.
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
Gaming has become more popular this gen (Last gen?) so as a result there are a lot more copies of each game out there. The only games that could hold their value are Limited Print games and games licensed from Japan & South Korea
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
Those two tend to fall into the same category
Bindiana's avatar
Bindiana 3 years ago
Yeah there are some collectors editions that have some value as there werent many produced stuff like Uncharted 3 collectors Edition and Sonic Generation. Even some of the rarer PS3 JRPGs lost value because they rereleased a lot of them like Hyper Dimension. With everything going digital will slowly kill the collectors market.

That is the Japanese release so I'm not shocked at the price. People kept asking for Nis to do another run of Neptunia and eventually they did
RTLF's avatar
RTLF 3 years ago
You're right to a degree but I don't see in the long run digital gaming killing the collectors market. Collectors want to collect physical products and the more popular/widespread digital becomes the less physical copies will be manufactured meaning a higher value on them down the line. I have a Saturn emulator on my laptop with all my fav games for it(sort of like digital but free to anyone who bothers to look for it) but i still managed to sell my Saturn and games like Radiant Silvergun, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Saga etc. for really good money

Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar

Emus are Ok to a degree but downloading ROMS without owning the physical copy is a gray area and most people don't want to bother with that
Bindiana's avatar
Bindiana 3 years ago
Would guess a quickly cobbled together movie in tie in game least said about it the better so can get people to buy it with the hype of the film.
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar

+ a game has more value to people if they pay for it, if they get it for free then it's just throwaway
Bindiana's avatar
Bindiana 3 years ago
I still think there will be a collectors market just not a very big one for games going forward I dont think there will be a big market for old PS3 games and 360 games but still be a market for your hard to get Retro games as there were less copies made in those days compared to today.

haha not accusing you of anything just an interesting argument to do with ownership. Its like with video games being your not buying the game your buying a licence to play it.
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
It is an interesting discussion. Personally if a game isn't available to buy anymore and it isn't available to download then I see no problem with ROMS since money isn't getting to the devs/publisher anyway but once a game is available to purchase digitally then it is a no go

But lets say you have a ROM of lets say Road Rash on the megadrive (which I dont think is available at the moment) and next month it is coming to PSN and Xbox live would you then delete it? Maybe there could be a law made that after certain amount of time and condition computers games become public domain?
RTLF's avatar
RTLF 3 years ago
Agreed on the Roms thing Nox. @Bindiana, exactly my point, I originally asked the question to speculate on the effects of drm & swapping/selling policies on people who spend their hard earned cash on something they should therefore earn outright. Say 10-20 years down the line you want to plug your old console back in and play your old games, with drm there's a chance it wont even work, like Nox said the servers will most likely be long offline. So not only are you only buying the licence to play the game but that licence in theory also has a time limit... For me drm is a massive "No"
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
That is why I love Steam, the games can be cheap enough to make paying for a licence worth it and Steam is going nowhere anytime soon, plus I you want non DRM versions of the games you have GOG & Humble Bundle to go to

Wildstar beta weekend this weekend, although I doubt I will get this as do not like the way NCsoft shut down MMOs, especially City of heroes, plus I do not like the graphical style for a MMO, although the housing system looks interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UGHV3GnPVE&feature=youtu.be&t=12s

Yeah does bring up the question will you be able to play Titanfall on the xbox one in 10 years time. The DRM thing I dont think would be to much of a problem on consoles as I think they would just release a patch to get rid of all the DRM stuff at the end of the consoles life like now if it DRM was on the 360.

Xbox ONE storage is not that bad as we shall be able to ADD more storage (as opposed to replace but hopefully Sony will add the option as well) to it via external USB HDDs. No matter what size it is, I will still need probably 10 times more! Wii U is poor as only gives 32GB. Microsoft have said that they are going to allow trading in digital games in the future. Also Sony have hinted that they will be renting games digitally, although with the free games with PS+ it is similar, but have to wait for them to give out the games, but once that system is in place should be able to rent new games like Ground Zeroes. I like Steam too, as able to play games from over the past 20 years, and no need for multiple consoles.
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
Real question is: Would you still want to play Titanfall in 10 years time
JoeToots's avatar
JoeToots 3 years ago
TONY they'll probs bring out there own branded storage, which will be heavily overpriced.
JoeToots's avatar
JoeToots 3 years ago
Zoo tycoon on xbone anyone played it? would you reccomend it?
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
1. The Wii U is primarily a disk based console, Ninty doesn't put a lot of hope on the Eshop. 2 I doubt it will be trading in the way most people are thinking. 3. They haven't hinted at it, they are doing it, it has been common knowledge for months
superniceguy's avatar
superniceguy 3 years ago
Xbox 360 storage is rubbish, does not allow for external HDDs, and only fast USB sticks or their own brand which is. For GTA V I bought several USB sticks for it and they were all below recommendations or failed, and the only one that worked was the Microsoft one. So, they will allow any external HDD, but yeah, chances are that official ones will work best with it.
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
Also I agree with what Toots said. Odds are M$ will make their own HDD's which will be stupidly overpriced
superniceguy's avatar

There is a demo of Zoo Tycoon so you can see for yourself. I plan on buying it just waiting for a sale to get it digitally.
JoeToots's avatar

With games needing a compulsory install i can't see how they cannot use a branded HDD surely there's copyright issues with installing a game onto a HDD>
superniceguy's avatar
superniceguy 3 years ago
The HDDs will be formatted to Xbox standards, and doubt they will then be readable on PCs (unless you can partition parts of the HDDs but the Xbox partition will not be although no doubt someone will develop a tool to be able to). If that is the case then could use one external HDD for Xbox ONE, Wii U and PS4 if Sony allows it.

@Bindiana, was thinking about that myself.... but it raises the question, why put it there in the first place if they're gonna patch it out after a few years? what are they getting out of it?

This weekend my girlfriend is out of town. I will have some more time to sleep, to watch football (Saturday: Chelsea - Arsenal , Sunday: El Classico). I also plan to play some games (some PC games, maybe some 360 games also) and catch up with my favorite TV shows.

Luckily EHD's are cheap nowadays so you can get a good one if you're struggling on space for your games. As far as I'm concerned at the moment I'm fine to remove storage (I've already deleted games I've played such as Lego Marvel, Lego Movie, Contrast etc) because I've 100%'d them and don't see me going back anytime soon. I know if I do go back too that it is a very quick install time on the PS4 and can just go at it from there.
JoeToots's avatar
JoeToots 3 years ago
unfortunatley the xbox one is a piss take to install games.
Bindiana's avatar

@ RTLF as Nox says to control the used market if you take it the situation now do you think Microsoft will care about the used market for the 360 it will be more interested in getting people to buy xbox one consoles and games. But think how much they would of made if they got a cut of every 360 game sold used or traded in .
superniceguy's avatar
superniceguy 3 years ago
I just dug out my Xbox to test and trade in some games, and played MecAssault 2 Lone Wold, a 10 year old game, and after playing Titanfall that is quite lame now, so got rid of it. Although I doubt Titanfall will be as lame as technology is slowing down unless something radical happens. Tales of Vesperia was selling for about £150 before it went digitally, now it has gone digital, it is back down to reasonable prices £14-£20 on Amazon. If it was not on the Xbox store, it would probably be selling for £150.
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
I got Tales of Vesperia for £40 used before it went Digital & the reason that the prices droped for that game was Namco gave Vesperia another print run when Tales of the Abyss or Tales of Graces F came out (Can't remember what one)

Bindiana's avatar
Bindiana 3 years ago
Sometime in the future I will, not to bothered at the moment think I will wait till more games I want to play are out. Still not entirely happy with what Microsoft tried to pull well mainly there attitude towards it. Think £300-£350 mark would tempt me. The other problem would be where to put it have so much under my tv as it is.

@Bindiana, Ok that question came across a little wrong... I never meant I didn't know the answer, I just meant that's the question to be raised... obviously that's what they wanted to achieve but they'd never admit it... a person who has forked out to buy their product can no longer sell on something they are supposed to own... what a ridiculous thought
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
Na, you would be able to sell it on but only to specific retailers (A.K.A Game)
RTLF's avatar
RTLF 3 years ago
Jeez I've really gotta pick my words carefully here huh :) Ok Nox but that's no good to me cos i sell my stuff on ebay...get it?
Bindiana's avatar
Bindiana 3 years ago
Thats the thing the argument is you havent bought a product you have bought a licence the cd is just a vehicle for the licence. I think its the same for DVDs and Music cds but only video games that used market has any real value so not much deal is made about the other ones. my opinion is you have bought it and you should be able to do whatever you like with it.
RTLF's avatar
RTLF 3 years ago
Why would I go to Game so that they can make a cut along with MS leaving me with less than selling "my own" game by my own means?
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 3 years ago
Don't shoot the messenger. M$ said back when the DMR was still happening that they would allow you to trade in your games but only to specific retailers who have a way of deactivating the copy
RTLF's avatar

@Nox and I refer you back to my previous comment :) Anyway back to the original topic(that's if anyone gives a flying...) I'll be getting my AC4 plat this weekend so i can sell it on *ebay* while its still worth some money, on lvl 50 of online MP so only 5 levels to go. The rest of my gaming time this weekend(while not much when you take out playing tennis, watching football and gf's bday) will be spent on FFXHD... looking forward to revisiting Spira and playing some blitzball :) Have a good weekend everyone
