Tax breaks now available for Game Development community in the UK

The European Commission has approved measures to introduce games tax relief policies in the UK.

According to games body Tiga, any Tax Breaks introduced by the UK government will provide a £188 million boost for the UK's games development sector.

This news means that the 25 per cent tax rate is now available to all game developers in the UK who pass a cultural test.

The test basically requires a game to be awarded 16 points to be eligible for tax breaks. Points are awarded for setting the game in the UK or another EEA state, using UK or EEA characters and from hiring British staff.

UK Games Tax relief was originally set for April 1, 2013, however it was blocked by the EU Commission until now.
