Amazon announces Fire TV *update*

Amazon has announced a new streaming device known as Fire TV.

The device which supports  Movies, TV, Games, Apps and Photos includes 2GB of RAM, a dedicated GPU and a quad-core processor. It also supports dual-band WiFi.

As previously rumoured, Fire TV runs using an OS based on Android, allowing for the porting of apps. Streaming services include Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video at first, although HBO Go, SHO Anytime, Pandora, RedBullTV, YouTube, Netflix and others will follow.

Amazon has also stated that Amazon Instant Video will be bolster with more original programming to help support the device.

As you'd expect, the device also supports Amazon cloud for photo storage and more.

Most importantly, Amazon has been talking games. You can play game in a variety of ways. You can use the remote control, you can use a custom app that Amazon's releasing next month, or you could use the newly announced Fire Game Controller.

Amazon says that a variety of game developers have signed up. Big names like Ubisoft and Take-Two are noted and it also announced that by next month, thousands of games will be available to play.

One of the first games show was... Minecraft. Didn't see that coming did you? Other games shown include a Monsters Inc style game and Asphalt 8. Apparently the rough price of games will be just under $2. Amazon is also making its own games for the device, the first being Sev Zero, a third person shooter in the vein of Gears of War, it looks very like a mobile/handheld title.

Oh and Amazon has a lot of games in the works. More than a dozen apparently.

The device is now available in the U.S and costs $99.

We'll keep an eye on this device. But what do you think so far?

Either would be nice, but an obvious appreciation of my brilliance would be best. ;)

Some of the games trailered look like they could be quite fun.
