Gran Turismo Academy now open *update*

Update: Gran Turismo academy is now open, so if you are interested in taking part you can take to Gran Turismo 6 and head for the time trials.

Have you got what it takes? Check out the new video below for some inspiration.

Original: Sony will launch this year's GT Academy on Monday, April 21.

The competition was first started in 2008 by Sony in collaboration with Nissan and gives the best Gran Turismo players the chance become a professional race car driver.

The first sees players take part in an online time trial using pre-selected Nissan vehicles and is accessible to everyone via the game. Following this the best players will then head to the national final event, followed by a final selection round held at Silverstone Circuit in England.

"It's hard not to feel really proud of what GT Academy has achieved since it started in 2008: podiums in the famous Le Mans 24 Hour race; championship wins; multiple race wins; and this year we have one of our winners, Jann Mardenborough, racing in the GP3 single-seater series on the F1 calendar," said European Brand Manager, Penrose Tackie on the EU PS Blog.

"Our first ever winner, Lucas Ordoñez, is racing Super GTs in Japan as his day job in 2014 and will also team up with 2012 European winner Wolfgang Reip at Le Mans this year to race Nissan's fascinating ZEOD RC ('Zero Emissions On Demand') experimental car. Meanwhile, last year's band of GT Academy winners from Europe, the USA and Germany were all in action last weekend at Monza in the Blancpain Endurance Series in a 500-plus BHP Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3."
