Xbox One to launch in China this September

Microsoft is to launch the Xbox One in China, no doubt hoping it'll catch some early sales as one of the first console manufacturers to launch there.

“For the first time ever, Xbox One is coming to China with a full games and entertainment system,” Xbox Studios marketing and strategies office Yusuf Mehdi said in a promotional video.

“In China there are over half a billion gamers, so the opportunity to create global and locally created content to delight millions and millions of gaming families everywhere is something that we’re really passionate about.”

The Chinese government has content guidelines for video games, so any titles which are released will no doubt be altered to meet these rules.

Currently there is no word on when Sony is planning to launch in China, although you can expect it to launch either before or soon after Microsoft.

It will be interesting to see what games they will allow to be released over there and how much they will be censored still. Potentially a huge market for both Microsoft and Sony though.

Console gaming won't take off in China. They have always been PC gamers and they will stick to what they know

but if 1% of the gamers in china buy one thats 500,000,000 which seems ridiculous

Fair enough but I really doubt that. I foresee another Japan for Xbox

If Microsoft thought there was any serious sales potential in launching the console in China, they wouldn't have delayed launching it there by a year.

1% of the gamers in China constitutes 500 million people? 1% of the planet's entire population only makes up 70 million... :D
