Over 50 EA titles going offline this June

EA has announced a full list of titles that will be going offline following the closure of GameSpy's servers.

"Since GameSpy's announcement, our teams have been working to evaluate options to keep services up and running," EA wrote on its official site. "Unfortunately, due to technical challenges and concerns about the player experience, we do not have a solution at this time. Online services for EA games on the GameSpy platform will be closed down at the end of June.

"We know some of these games are still fan favorites, including Battlefield 2, Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Command & Conquer games. We are still investigating community-supported options to preserve online functionality for these titles, such as multiplayer. Significant technical hurdles remain, and at this time we don't have anything to announce."

i am sure we will see this sort of thing happening more now as the games start to get old in the future , always wondered how they have so many servers running for these old games

Makes sense really, they can't keep them open forever.

Surprised they had servers open for PS2 games still that seems crazy.

Personally I won't be shedding any tears at the closure of any of those servers but it sucks for anyone who actually still played those games online I suppose. The official servers for PSO on the Gamecube however, that was a sad day indeed, for me anyway.

It sucks that people will be losing out but if it is like any other game that has a dedicated fanbase someone will host servers for it so they can continue.

These are only shutting down as Gamespy is no more, and ALL their servers are shutting down May 31st, not because the games are old and making room for new, or EA are doing a "clear out". No Xbox games in that list, as those use MS servers, but all original Xbox games went offline years ago. Bulletstorm should still be OK on the 360

I know few unhappy people who wont like Command & Conquer going offline plus bulletstorm going offline for ps3 that's shocking & kinda annoying.
