Microsoft announces Kinect-less Xbox One for release this June

Here's a rather big shocker, Microsoft will release a Kinect-Less Xbox One SKU this June.

Beginning on June 9th, in all markets where Xbox One is sold, Microsoft will offer Xbox One starting at £349. This is a new console option that does not include Kinect.

Microsoft has also announced that it's bringing more value to Xbox Live Gold members and offering all Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners access to entertainment apps whether or not you have an Xbox Live Gold membership.

Microsoft has also announced that in June, Games with Gold members will receive an additional free Xbox 360 game. The Games with Gold titles for Xbox 360 in June are “Dark Souls,” “Charlie Murder” and a bonus game of “Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.”

“Max: The Curse of Brotherhood” and “Halo: Spartan Assault” will also be free on the Xbox One.

In addition, there will be exclusive Discounts thanks to Deals with Gold which will also launch for Xbox One in June, delivering discounts for games each month, with significant savings for Xbox Live Gold members. The first titles offered in June will include “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Ryse: Son of Rome,” and a few others. In the coming months, Microsoft will offer significant savings of up to 50 – 75 percent off certain titles. This program will continue to be available for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360. And new on Xbox One, we will launch a virtual VIP room exclusive to Xbox Live Gold members will feature free games, monthly deals, and other benefits.

Also coming in June, anyone with an Xbox will be able to access popular entertainment experiences such as Machinima, Twitch and Upload, popular video services like Netflix, Univision Deportes, GoPro, Red Bull TV and HBO GO, sports experiences like the NFL app for Xbox One, MLB.TV, NBA Game Time, NHL Game Center and more. Microsoft experiences including Internet Explorer, Skype, OneDrive and OneGuide will also be available to all Xbox customers.

"Kinect remains an important part of our vision. Many of you are using Kinect for Xbox One every day," says Microsoft in closing and with that, we wonder what developers who thought everyone would have a Kinect think.

Not much of a price drop considering a lot of places were selling the titanfall bundle for £350, and that came with kinect. Price should be lower than £350 in my opinion.

I'm sure you'll be able to get one for £300 by Christmas.

You sure did Gloria. I was expecting it at E3 as well but I do fancy trying Max though.

Jesus, haha... never thought I'd see the day they ditched the app paywall, and doing more PS+ style features to make Live Gold more attractive at the same time. Clever. Credit where it's due to them, but all those quotes from last year about how there'd never be a Kinect-less Xbone and how it was 'integral to the Xbox One experience' are going to haunt them for the rest of this generation.

Just shows what a change of leadership can do. They are really only going to benefit for it. As for terrible quotes at least they dont have giant enemy crabs based on historical battles but then they do have fist bump.

Should of done this from day one problem they now have a lot of people went over to ps4 myself included. Don't have enough money or time to play both. Still believe the better value for money is with sony sorry if this upsets fanboys telling it the way I see if playstation plus offers free games on all 3 consoles every month. On top of that Microsoft were left with very few exclusives last gen can see that happening again this gen. Your gonna have to do better than that to make people want to come back to you!

Well this doesn't benefit anyone and won't change anything. This console is a disaster for Microsoft and I'm not sure how they can turn it around. At least Nintendo are sticking to their guns with the Wii U.

I'm glad they're getting off their arses. The X1 was becoming a little stale for me. I'll deffo give Forza a go and I'm happy with the GFG titles.

Yep 100% getting this now, im glad they realised that they need a kinectless one for a certain demographic, do not care about motion control one bit

Penguin I wouldnt say it has been a disaster, granted they could have done a lot better but it has still sold really well and has quite a few really good games out for it. Granted when you look at how many sony has sold it doesnt look too good but Sony has done far better than anyone predicted.

I couldnt care about the motion side of it however I still like the kinect for it, everything just seems quicker on the dashboard with it and its great for recording gameplay mid play. It does feel a little weird talking to the computer though at least it has not started talking back.

The RRP of the console with Kinect is still £399. The original price was £429, but then dropped it to £399 to boost sales, and to try to keep selling the console with Kinect, but obviously still not enough sold, so now they removed Kinect. £349 is the price a Kinect-less one should have been at launch, alongside one with Kinect for £429. I bet stores will soon sell it for £320 in July or something

Wow., seriously? Where were you reading that Zombie? Would be interested to read up on that one. They were pushing that "not tied to sub" bulletpoint pretty hard last E3. It's getting hard to keep track of all the 180s today :p

The Games with Gold scheme was only going to last until December 2013. Now they have kept it on, and is now evolving with more free games per month, so terms will no doubt change with it. As long as the games that have been "bought" for free, especially before 2014, are not affected, then it is understandable.

well no one can be surprised by this move, but they should of really had the two option from launch and the price is too high, you can get a kinect ready xbox one with a game for not much more. really should of been £300. but i give microsoft there due they do seem to be listening even if they did take there time. will definitely picking one up, to go with ps4 if it drops to about £300-320, which i think it will quickly will wonder what microsoft's response will be if this version out sells the kinect version and gives the ps4 a run for its money, will they finally realise most people have no interest in kinect and its been a big mistake on there part.

Pretty interesting move, them backing down to every issue the consumers pick up on, that and review after review with games being out performed on the PS4, got to wonder what Microsoft is bringing to E3. Probably alot of platform exclusives.

Very sensible move and with it still being early days Microsoft could get back in it. It's fair to say the XBox One has got off to a somewhat rocky start. With the Digital Rights Management thing which was rightly retracted and then failing consoles, it really hasn't been good for Microsoft. However Sony haven't released any killer games and the one that might be was from last gen anyway!

Glad they are offering the option, I still haven't seen any good use for the Kinect.

Everyone knew this was coming. But why announce a price drop a month before?! No doubt May sales will suffer as a result. However, for me £50 isn't enough of a price drop, you might aswell just pay the extra £50 and get the Kinect bundle incase there's a Kinect game in the distant future that catches your eye.

I can't see the point in MS doing Kinect-less version now and the more they keep talking about it, the more confusing a move this seems to be. They are correct in saying that the full-fat experience is better with Kinect however now that they've come out saying the console is more powerful without Kinect attached, they convoluted their own stance. If this is a sales pitch, it's not a very good one. On top of that, the price point isn't what I'd call attractive especially when current XO bundle SKUs are going for either the same price or even cheaper. This was certainly the case when Titanfall released and I saw Titanfall bundles going for as cheap as £329. As you don't need the Kinect connected in order to operate the console (something MS reneged on after E3 2013), I'd have like to see MS cut the price and go level with the PS4. Kinect is not a piece of tech to scoff (it's very impressive), so to offer the whole kit n' caboodle at the same price as a PS4 would make things very competitive indeed and keep the devs that are pro-Kinect happy.

So MS have admitted the master plan has failed and that no one wants Kinect about bloody time this is good news but it maybe to late to repair the damage it also makes me wonder how much trouble is MS in to be dropping Kinect like this after refusing so meny times I am still thinking act of desperation and their in more trouble then they are willing to tell us I'm going to stick with my ps4 and keep watch MS for now to see what happens I think something fishy is going on here

People would want the Kinect if it was used in a meaningful way, they have had more than enough time to do that
