Minecraft PS4 confirmed for August release

Minecraft creator Mojang has revealed that the game will release on PS4 in August.

Mojang's Owen Hill confirmed that owners of the PS3 version will be able to import their saves to the PS4 version, in addition to confirming that the PS4 version supports worlds 36 times bigger than the PS3.

If you already own the digital version of Minecraft PS3, you’ll be able to pick up the PS4 version for a small fee rather than having to pay the full price all over again.

Good news for Sony gamers. I'm assuming once you've imported a PS3 save to PS4 that you can't then move it back to PS3 again, given the world size and the like?

Does anyone play this who can give me the low-down as to why it's so popular? From all the videos I've seen of gameplay online, it mainly seems to be people trolling young kids who are just trying to build a house.

@Kaysar Minecraft is a very weird game. Once upon a time I said I would never play it & it wasn't for me etc. Basically I downloaded it by accident on my PS3 & thought well hell I've paid for it so lets check it out & long story short I still can't tell you what is so special about the game. What I can tell you is it's very easy for 5 hours to pass by without you even realising it when your playing the game.

I agree it is a strange one, I always wondered what the appeal was of it was but then I played it and was hooked and had built a big stone tower. It also has survival elements to it, if you die you drop everything you were holding at the time and you have to get back to it before it disappears. If you liked lego when you were younger you could also have loads of fun in creation mode (not a big fan of it though)

Great news! Minecraft looks great and I am really keen to give it a whirl! I understand you can't port it back to PS3 as the file size and texture detail increases from porting to PS4. But never fear I'm sure more people will be playing this over the PS3 version
