Microsoft sticking by Rare, says Harrison

Microsoft has said that legendary developer Rare has a future and is most certainly part of its plans for Xbox.

The confirmation comes after the poor performance of Kinect Sports Rivals, layoffs at the studio and news of Microsoft removing Kinect from its Xbox One SKU's.

“I’m very happy to go on record to alleviate any of those concerns you might have,” Xbox Studios boss Phil Harrison said to Eurogamer in a new interview, “We are very fortunate in having Rare and Lionhead in the UK as crown jewels of Microsoft Studios.

“I’m really excited by the things they’re doing and I believe you will be as well when you hear about them. Rare is an incredible talent and they have some very very ambitious plans for the future and we’re supporting them in every way we can.”

Are you pleased that Rare are still in the mix as far as Xbox goes? Do you think Microsoft should help return them to former glory? We'd sure love a sequel to Kameo.

Microsoft have to stick by Rare as Rare are one of the only companies who they really have exclusivity over now. I dont know why they didnt or couldnt keep Bungie I find it very strange that.

If they consider Lionhead and Rare the "crown jewels" of their first party studios, then Microsoft are really in worse shape on that score than any of us imagined considering how bad Fable 3 was and how bad... well... everything Rare have released on Xbox consoles (That wasn't an N64 port) have been so far. Nintendo really saw MS coming considering how much MS paid them for Rare.

I hope this doesn't mean they're going to destroy another great franchise

It would be sad to see Rare fizzle out. I still have my Donkey Kong SNES games, Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64 from the N64. I consider them golden in the gaming world. As for their involvement with Microsoft, I'm glad they have their MS support, but I think what they actually produce will decide whether it's been a good partnership or not.

The Rare of old are long dead. I personally think that the best Microsoft can do with them is take the IP that Rare created and make another company develop a new game in that series, because I don't have faith in their ability. Killer Instinct looks really good, so I'm hoping they do something with other series like Banjo Kazooie or Jet Force Gemini.

Am I the only one who just wants a new Banjo Kazooie or Conker? Or think up a new IP like those! That's all I want! DX
