Wii U won't see gameplay with two GamePads any time soon

Nintendo has said that users will not be able to use two Gamepads with their new system anytime soon, if at all.

"Certainly as we've been working on Wii U, I think we're at a point where we don't feel it's realistic to expect people to purchase two GamePads yet," Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto told IGN in a new interview.

"We're still trying to get as many people as possible to buy the system itself, and that's where our focus is right now. For the time being, two GamePad gameplay is not within our objectives in the short-term."

Miyamoto did say that it would be possible, so if a load of systems are suddenly sold, then who knows what could happen.

"From a technical standpoint, I think if we decided to pursue that, technically we would be able to and we can perform system updates that would allow for that,"  Miyamoto said.

"It's also very interesting from a gameplay perspective idea because there are a lot of possibilities with two GamePads. But, at the same time, taking that kind of approach would again be a drain on resources and require us to continue to utilise our development resources for that. So then it would become a question of where do we want to devote our resources: Is it to creating regular GamePad games, or creating games centered around two GamePads?"

Do you think it'd be good to be able to use two GamePads with the Wii U?

I personally would love to have 2 game pads but the pro controller is nice to use so I guess I can settle with it. It's weird how many people think the WiiU and the Wii are the same machine so maybe this is where some of the sales are being lost. I know there are other major reasons but that was just a thought.

I'd definitely love to have two gamepads working for the Wii U! The design and quality of the picture is so amazing, I actually play on the gamepad screen a hell of a lot more than I use the TV screen for the games. It's just nice to be able to play wherever I need to be, be it the bed or sofa, and not have to worry about having to still have a good view of the TV screen. When I'm playing some mario kart 8 in bed at night if my partner wants to play as well then he was to sit up and be positioned right, whereas a 2nd gamepad would totally fix that problem! Also in multiplayer games where you and your friend are playing against each other it's easy to conceal the gamepad screen and keep your friend guessing what you're up to, but the player actually using the gamepad can just glance up at the TV at any time, cheaters I know but it's easily done. 2 gamepads would also solve this issue! Another issue is if someone wants to use the TV screen to watch a show, 2 gamepads would mean you and someone else could still play together! I hope it is something they decide to do. They already said it's possible with updates to enable a 2nd gamepad to join in, so I say they should go for it!

Two gamepads would be awesome but it would probably cost a bit to get a second one.

An additional Gamepad would probably be expensive. I'm fine with just one for now.
