Sniper Elite 3 has 10GB day one patch on Xbox One

Sniper Elite 3 has a whopping 10GB day one patch sitting waiting for those who buy the game on Xbox One.

That mandatory install was initially going to be be 21GB, but 14GB of it will be replaced by the day one patch, while the full install size is now cut to around 19GB.

"The main part of the update is to sync data between the game's retail discs and the Xbox Live digital download edition of the game. In the several weeks between sending the code off to manufacture and release, rather than sit around or take a break, we've continued to work on the game, making improvements and optimisations," Explained Rebellion.

"We've also begun work on multiplayer DLC and a small part of this update is to introduce a compatibility pack. This is standard for any game that adds DLC - it's just to make sure everyone can have the same multiplayer experience whether they own DLC or not.

"While we understand gamers will be frustrated at the wait, the good news is that the update will actually reduce the size of the game's total install footprint on their hard drive, and reduce the size of future patches significantly.

"It's part of this ongoing optimisation process that's enabled Sniper Elite 3 to perform well at a native 1080p on both Xbox One and PS4. We appreciate everyone's patience and we firmly believe Sniper Elite 3 will be worth the wait!"

Day one patches will also apply to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but they will be much smaller.

Whilst this actually looks like a good game, I feel incredibly sorry for someone downloading this patch who doesn't have fibre optic broadband. 10GB is a lot of data to be pulling down :S

Ridiculous. Thank Christ Sony implemented those software changes to the PS4 that dramatically cut down on patch sizes or we might have had similar on there.

You do know that you won't be downloading anywhere near that speed on the Xbone James. Not unless you are using a Gigabit ethernet connection anyway

Jeese! 19GB is still too much. How much is it going to take on the other consoles??? PS3??? PS4??? 360??? I can see this sort of thing moving forwards putting people off purchasing games such as this

I grabbed an XB1 copy from my local independent store this morning and was shocked to see a 10GB update ready and waiting already :/ Put the disc in to install/download update, not sure how long it took but popped down the shops, got back about 30 minutes later and it was done! .. Played for about 2 hours so far, if your a fan of Sniper V2 then this is a must buy in my opinion, everything that made V2 so good they have just improved, not drastically but they really have added some great gameplay features, I mean who doesn't love aiming to shoot someone in the nads? ;)

@ Danny, a local independent shop near to where I live. He often gets new releases and starts selling 4-5 days before. I don't usually use him because he can charge rip off prices especially when selling games early but was quite surprised to see him selling the XB1/PS4 versions for £43.99 so I couldn't resist.

TBH it wouldnt be a good idea if i got early as im gunna do the campaign in co op with a friend over weekend so it would of ruined that, coz id know whats gunna happen n the best way to do missions ect basically just spoil the game for friend which is just unfair, i was just shocked that old timer has it so early but im glad to hear that its very much like sniper elite v2 as that game was just really fun.

This is not going to be a problem, there are plenty of games releasing this week, so will play something or do something while it downloads. I've download far more than this - 60GB for Elder Scrolls Online for both EU and US servers, and does not take long on my connection

My area is still under evaluation which sucks as the two towns about 10 minutes away have fibre optic just now.

That is ridiculous patch size. It's like they've left out a quarter of the game. I don't mind day 1 updates, I get it's easier to tweaks things sometimes when a game is released. But 10gb is way too much for a day 1 patch.
