Tuesday Chat: July 1

It's July already, although all that means for gamers is a lack of releases.

So with no new games coming and the sun in the sky, perhaps it's time for everyone to go outside and enjoy the summer.

With this in mind, we'd like to know your favourite non gaming activities, you know, the ones you do outside, the places you like to visit, your favourite holiday destinations.

Let's Chat!

I love reading. Also other ordinary stuff, like movies, music and... food. Really struggling here as I have no life and no talent. >_> I also have six cats to look after. I haven't been to many places on holiday, but my favourite places I have been are Japan and Sweden.

You can't beat a good book, especially when the subject is serial killers. Other than that, I love getting stuck into a project at home. The current one is designing/building my games room. I have only been to a couple of places abroad, so my favourite has to be my honeymoon - Rhodes

6 cats? Isn't that just six times the fun? And it's good to see other people enjoying their books. Anyone interested in sci-fi, horror and mystery, I can't help but recommend the Burton & Swinburne novels by Mark Hodder XD

If any of you ShopToers ever have the chance go to Mexico on holiday. It's a country I love (I was supporting them in the World Cup when England went out), and has loads of friendly people. Don't ever go to Juarez though - really it's not safe there!

We have 3 cats + 1 Rotty. Really enjoy a good horror, the more brutal the better (pattern forming here?) and military fiction

I really don't like cats.. Mexico has been a place i've always wanted to go too there and costa rica.

Beazi, what's the phone reception like in Juarez? Will I able to get a call from there? (I hope people get my tragic gaming joke and don't just think me crazy lol)

You like horror, Dave? Don't suppose you're a Clive Barker fan at all, are you?
Beazi's avatar
Beazi 2 years ago
Lol! I think you'd be able to make a call as it is like any other little Mexican town. However trying not to get shot whilst your making that phonecall is another thing! I've always been curious about Costa Rica too. It does look nice, don't fancy getting too close to the boarder with Honduras though!

I've not read any Clive Barker in a long time but yes, I do like his sick/twisted style

I stayed in Cancun behind the Kukulcan Plaza which is a massive shopping mall! They are very friendly there. Interesting animals too. I saw a lizard which was huge (although on the coach we were advised not to stroke it as it had previously bit off someone's fingers) and I saw a Crocodilo resting peaceful beside a lake. Crapped myself a bit but decided if I walked out in front it would munch on the mates before it got to me lol

da - My favourite serial killers have to be John Wayne Gacy & Ed Gein. So much so, I gave a lecture on Ed for my leadership course in the Navy. Did you know that Norman Bates (Psycho), Buffalo Bill (Silence of the Lambs) & Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) are all based on Ed Gein? Little useless info for you all

Lol! Favourite serial killers! Got a bit dark round here this morning. Can't say I have any favourites to speak of.

I do like Hannibal though as a series, very clever especially how they use him for information. Red Dragon was a fantastic movie. You'd know he's a bit of a crackpot wouldn't you

The best holiday I had was when I went to Florida. Lots of things to do out there to keep you occupied. Just like to relax in my free time, occasionally I read the odd book too.

I love playing football when the weather is like this. I might even go for a kickabout later! My favourite holiday was when I went to Egypt 9 years ago. My brother and I got to know some of the locals and we spent a lot of time with them and my parents on the beach just playing sports. Haven't had a holiday like that in a long time!

I started playing Divinity Original Sin last night and it is a great game and would really recommend it. Haven't been on holiday in years I went to France about 7 years ago with my family which was pretty fun.

Went to Germany in 2012 to meet my gf's family. It's a lovely country. Going Cyprus in about 4-5 weeks now and have found a close Painball and Go Karting place near the villa so I know what I'm doing when I get there. As for casual get-aways I like going to the bottom of the country to Dungeness, can't go wrong with sea air.

Anime is cartoons. Also manga is just comic books.. And cosplay is like 5 year old dress up.
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 2 years ago
They are cartoon but at the same time they aren't. Mainly cos people associate Cartoons with stuff like Spongebob and the like. Not with stuff like Legend of Aang and DBZ

Oh and bad Dubs like anything 4kids drove the perception that Anime is for kids

Erm toots cartoons are nothing like anime. Cartoons don't have blood, gore, sex & mind twisting plots. I'm sorry but i never seen an episode spooge bob with gore in it or any think anime remotely in it. So you really don't see the difference coz your being ignorant.

But if we are going to throw the ignorance card about you're showing your ignorance by jumping to the conclusion that I'm insulting cartoons or people that watch cartoons.
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 2 years ago
Put it this way. There are stuff that are made for kids and kids alone, like Rugrats or Arthur (Don't know what the kids watch these days) Then there are stuff like Legend of Aang that can be enjoyed by all ages. Then Stuff like South Park, Family Guy, DCU or Marvel Animations that are not for kids (Some Marvel ones are). Then there is Anime, by which covers those 3 points again

Don't suppose there are any Patlabor fans here? I know it's a bit old school but it's one of my favourites. Also love Lupin III, Hellsing, Ergo Proxy, Paranoia Agent, Naruto, Bleach, Ghost in the Shell, Black Lagoon, Gantz, Soul Eater, D. Gray Man, Planetes, Berserk and lots of others. Also a massive Vampire Hunter D fan, and most other Yoshiaki Kawajiri productions :)

And Loli-Nox-Tan has got it spot on, anime is a blanket term that covers various subgenres with their own relative age groups. I mean, I certainly wouldn't like a child watch Perfect Blue or Wicked City but would have no issue with them watching a Studio Ghibli movie.
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 2 years ago
Oh digging out the classics I see. Nah I'm not a fan of the old style Mecha Anime, also the fact that you just said you like Gantz means that I am not talking to you anymore. Hate senseless violence (I could bare it with Elfin Lied cos ..... Masterpiece)
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 2 years ago
or something like Welcome to the Space Show or Wolf Children (Everyone should watch Wolf Children)
Loli-Nox-Tan's avatar
Loli-Nox-Tan 2 years ago
Wolf Children is an amazing piece of storytelling
da_kerr's avatar
da_kerr 2 years ago
I found the underlying mystery if Gantz to be intriguing, even if one can argue the sexual content and violence were gratuitous. Just a shame they completely wussed out of any real explanation at the end of the manga. I can appreciate elements of Elfen Lied but I thought it was just as sadistic as Gantz. Still, everyone has their own tastes....I've still not found another fan of the Coyote Ragtime Show and hardly any fans of Planetes (the latter being a superbly humorous and poignant series imho)

I won a copy of Wolf Children on DVD. I was on the fence about trying it, but it was actually a very charming movie. Also love The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars. You'd have to be a robot not to cry at SW! Lol
