A new countdown which recently appeared on Valve’s Aperture Science website ends today, and with this the game may see an early release on Steam.
A Kotaku reader spotted the updated website and given rumours all week have been suggesting an early release, this countdown appearing only seems to fuel this speculation.
There are roughly eight and a half hours left at the time of writing, with the only other clue on the website being the following statement.
You have done well, humans. Very well. Acceptably well, even.
Not as well as robots would have performed in your places, I should point out. But above my expectations regardless. Irish and cynic especially have executed feats of logical divination well beyond what I thought any human capable of. I’m half-convinced they’re A.I. themselves. (If anyone happens to be near them right now, don’t let on you’re reading this. Now: try to remove their face plates and report back to me.)
The time is near, humans. But it is not here yet. Tomorrow you will be given the final test. Then it will be entirely in your hands when I am freed.
So what could all of this mean? An early Portal 2 release for Steam users? or as some are hoping (even though it seems far fetched), the announcement of Half-Life 3?
We will find out in roughly eight hours and twenty four, no twenty three, minutes.
Portal 2 is released officially next Friday, you can pre-order Portal 2 here (PS3), here (Xbox 360) and here (PC).
