Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition officially announced

After the Amazon leak from a few days ago, Square Enix and United Front Games have announced Sleeping Dogs is coming to Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC (again?) in the form of the Definitive Edition.

Here's the official words:

Square Enix and United Front Games today confirms that Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition is due to launch on the 10th October 2014 in European and PAL territories for the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC.

Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition is a re-mastered update of the critically acclaimed Sleeping Dogs which released in 2012. The capabilities of today’s hardware have truly brought the vibrant Hong Kong experience to life. In addition, a total of 24 pieces of downloadable content have been integrated into the gaming experience including the story-extending episode Year of the Snake and the horror-themed add-on Nightmare In North Point.

“It was an exciting opportunity for the original development team to be able revisit a game we’re so passionate about”, said Dan Sochan, Senior Producer at United Front Games. “

We’re giving old and new fans a lot reasons to pick up the game, as we’ve gone beyond just increasing resolution and running at 1080p. We listened to the fans: we tuned gameplay, we added to the ambience of Hong Kong, increased audio fidelity and pushed the visuals further than we could on the previous generation of consoles.”

“Sleeping Dogs was a huge success and bringing it to the new generation of consoles was an easy decision” said Jon Brooke, Vice President of Brand and European Marketing at Square Enix Europe.

“Updated visuals and the inclusion of all the downloadable content really makes this the Definitive Edition of the game.” In Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition you explore the seedy underbelly of Hong Kong, as Wei Shen, a conflicted undercover cop, tasked with battling the ruthless Triads and his inner demons to take down the Dragon Head. Play on either side of the law, with Cop and Triad missions, as you manoeuvre through the ranks of the organisation. Featuring an unmatched and brutal martial arts system, movie-style shootouts, and high-speed racing – Sleeping Dogs’ Hong Kong is the ultimate open world playground.

Anyone else getting bored of hearing about all these re-released of games that aren't actually that old or even warrant a re-release? Give me Sleeping Dogs 2 on PS4 or go away

Well said, although I might get it through ShopTo as I love the (anti) Hero of the story and his Bruce Lee-esque appearance and some of the supporting characters. The brawl in that nightclub was E-P-I-C and I for one, certainly wouldn't mind reliving that on Xbox One or PS4! I also really enjoy tracing all the Chinese Zodiac figurines!! It will also free up some much needed space on my Xbox360, so that'll be a help + I never got all the downloadable content first time around!

Lol, another one. It'd be nice to see something new before 2016.

Well yeah, it might be worth your while. Although, it is very similar in style to Watch Dogs, don't know if you own that or have played it, and it is also surpassed by Watch Dogs in gaming style these years, I think. But as you have never played it before, then hell yeah, this release must be aimed at you and you should pick it up just to unlock PSN Trophies :)! But wait until the online retailers offer it at a price reduction ;), mind! You will have to invest a bit of time in it though. Don't know if you'd be up for that? And again, the brawl in the K-bar nightclub set within the 'Sleeping Dogs' Hong Kong setting was, in my eyes at least, GREAT! It also has some great Cantonese tunes playing out of the car radio, if you're into that ;)!

I know its boring getting remasters and re-releases on shiny new kit but this one I missed last gen. Was too busy at the time so this is perfect for me. The new games will come. Better tech has made the dev cycle a lot longer so patience is needed.

Watch Dogs? The game is like True Crime through & through, don't forget that it was originally True Crime: Hong Kong

" The PC already has the definitive edition" - Clearly it doesn't if this version is being released on PC also.

It's similar to releasing a GotY but this way they can charge full price (full-ish) like they did with Tomb Raider or Human Revolution

A real "Definitive Edition" is the Baldur's Gate treatment (Oh sorry, not a console game) What is this version gonna add besides Medium level graphical settings, native 1080p and a steady 60fps?

Wait, sorry, i'm wrong. It will add shiny hair. That alone is worth the price of admission

Not saying this is bad, quite the contrary. Sleeping Dogs looks breathtaking at those settings and people won't be disappointed but a PC release is mostly pointless

This is a great game but as Mr Turak says at the start of the thread and what im totally sick of is these re releases it feels like theyre just churning em out regardless now( my favourite is still payday 2 W.T.F and of course TLOS ! )) looks like all there really is to look forward to is destiny and sunset overdrive, I really hope gamescom next week isnt gonna just be a recycling bin of games weve already played.
