Gravity Crash Ultra Review

Just Add Water came across a novel idea of combining gameplay elements of a whole bunch of classics and putting them into one space exploration game. Previously released on the PSP and PS3, Gravity Crash played and looked great, piloting your little ship through a vector line graphics inspired land though the general consensus was that it was rock hard. Taking this into consideration Just Add Water has now released Gravity Crash Ultra, a shinier version of the original game, but with a few tweaks to make the game more accessible.

Gravity Crash Ultra is essentially the same game as before but with some new levels and content included and whilst I am not sure this is enough to win over fans of the original, these new additions certainly even up the playing field for newcomers. The gameplay is an interesting mix of arcade classics like Asteroids and Lunar Lander with you piloting your little ship through a maze of rocks and tunnels, shooting the enemy and collecting gems as you carry out each of the level mission’s objectives. In most levels the alien presence is your priority, taking on gun turrets, jetpacks, flying saucers and jelly monsters; utilizing your shields, special weapons and piloting skills to avoid their incoming fire but you also have the environment to contend with, the varying gravity pull of each world trying to smash your ship against its surface, dodging incoming meteor showers and even racing against a flow of molten lava. Though space sorties are common, along the way there are lots of other elements to keep you busy, be it collecting gems, finding hidden artefacts and even carefully landing your ship to collect ally survivors stranded on the planets harsh surface, worth your time as they all add to your overall high score.

Though there is no difficulty level as such there are three ships to choose from, with each of these requiring differing levels of skill to successfully navigate through the galaxy. The dual stick ship allows for full 360 control of both the ships thrusters and your weapons by way of the control sticks and classic has you turning left and right, leaving you to only thrust and fire in the direction you are facing. The third ship evens out the games difficulty and is ideal for first timers as the Anti-Grav ship removes the effects of gravity, allowing you to easily navigate the many tight tunnels you will come across whilst offering the same precise controls as the dual stick system.

With solar systems full of planets to explore and two modes of play both offering high scores to compete with other online players there is more than enough to keep you busy. On top of all that there is also the inclusion of a level editor which overall is a very easy to use and a satisfying experience as thanks to the simple line based graphics used in the game you can easily copy and paste a variety of shapes to create a labyrinth laden with traps for any unsuspecting player wishing to try their skills.

Gravity Crash Ultra is another small title that has found its home on the Vita, incorporating the power of the machine with online elements and making this the complete Gravity Crash experience.

I got hohokum and surgeon simulator and gave this a miss as 2x velocity and counterspy and that crazy looking platformer in the village with all the paint and stuff in it as well as infamous first light are all out in the next couple of weeks.I have been smashing the PSN credits ive been buying here recently haha!!!! one thing sony are certainly doing rite is theyre wealth of digital titles with the exception of Metrico which is just awful as are most of the PS+ games of late.
