Bungie says day one Destiny reviews will not paint an accurate picture of the game

Bungie has warned that day one reviews of Destiny will not provide an accurate representation of the game.

“For us, this is a first – a new experience,” wrote Deej on the Bungie website.

“It’s a bit of a risk, too. We fully anticipate seeing day one reviews from folks who decide to kick the tires, but don’t have the time or patience to take our ride for a nice, long road trip.

“Some of you might wait to pick up a copy until you read the final verdict from your most trusted review house. We’re okay with that. We’ve created something we’re proud of.”

Deej also added that, from the beginning, Bungie planned for Destiny to "feel like more than bits on a drive.

"We wanted to build a place for players to visit – a place filled with luminous life. Without a vibrant population for the last safe city on Earth, and Guardians roaming the wild frontiers, Destiny is a shadow of what it should be. That’s not how we wanted to submit for review.

“We explored several options to populate the world for reviewers. Our team estimates it would take thousands of gamers to ensure each potential public space in Destiny would be populated – that every activity would be accessible at all hours of the day and night. Where on Earth would we be able to find thousands of gamers?

“The answer, again, is you.

“So, reviews of Destiny will wait for your arrival. On day one, you’ll be rubbing elbows with the pageant judges, so look sharp. Who knows, you may end up on one of their live streams. They may end up on one of yours, too!”

Destiny goes live for reviewers and those with early copies of the game later today. We will be bringing you our review once we have had enough time with the game, however to make up for this we will bring you our early impressions either later tonight or tomorrow morning.

There will probably be negativity if there are server problems - these can be ignored. If there are no issues and everyone loves the game to begin with and there are positive reviews will Bungie want these to be ignored? Then a month later people giving bad reviews at they played the game to death and now bored of it. This is what happened to SWTOR - great reviews at launch, then 1-3 months later people starting quitting as not much else to do. SWTOR reviews around launch were 8/10, and then months later was 4/10. At least Destiny has no monthly fee, although has a season pass the equivalent to about 4 months of MMO subs.

I never found a single problem with the beta or alpha, the alpha alone blew most games out the water, beta vastly improved, so guessing the full game will have vastly improves once again so if there are server problems i think they will be very small indeed

I recently played Killzone on the PS4 and despite being amazed by the graphics first time around, after playing Destiny it felt like I was playing last gen! They're kinda right about the first day reviews but they shouldn't make such a song and dance about it. The game is already going to be a massive seller and even if it got slated in day one reviews, it would still be out of stock everywhere for a long time to come

Beta is not the same as Live. There has not been a MMO where there has been no issues on day one. Many more people play the game live than in Beta/Alpha, and overloads the servers, taking the devs by surprise. The devs then tweak things to cater for the load, and all is good. If the game crashes on Day One then that means the game is popular indeed. If it does not crash then it is not as popular as they expected!

Kaysar, soon as i unlock cosmodrome explore, im heading straight to that bunker where the immune knights were, wanna find out what they were guarding

there probably will be a few issues, not the games fault, that's down to equipment issues, server overload etc, there will no doubt be thousands jumping on tomorrow so yeah, just saying don't see how a review could lower the rating for server problems imo

also i do agree nice guy, but bungie mentioned in the blogs and updates that the alpha and beta greatly took them by surprise with how many got involved, guessing bungie will probably try not to make that mistake again

Aha, I got in there. Took me a long time (and a lot of blood). Dead ahead was a ruined train car you couldn't get in, and to the left was an empty room. I whimpered in there awhile as one-hit-kill shots rained down around me. Nothing else I could find but no doubt in the full version there should be

found another too right at the back of the old boat yard, follow it round and you come to a tower, guarded by a small army, immune, and a shreiker, after a few well timed jumps, made it to the entrance of the tower, and got slaughtered by the shreiker, but as i fell the camera turned to see what looked like a gold chest

I got into the swamp area which I think is what you're talking about. Found a giant ball? thing which just exploded and sent lots of missiles at me. Managed to scramble up a hill and into a cave which was infested with the lowest form of the hive (forget their name). Scared the sh*t out of me running around in the dark as they chased me around this small cave, jumping out from the dark and screaming at me

no this was in the open, back of the boats in the sand, a dirt trail takes you round then you get mauled, the shreiker is diamond shaped and opens up in the middle and fires bolts of what looks like electricity but purple at you

That's it, that's what I saw. Never saw the gold chest, though. Just a lot of pain

dont think you could get the gold chests in the beta anyway, I think, but all this was in one explore zone, so there will be shit loads of goodies to find

The game is pretty much an MMO. The best reviews for Destiny will be a few months after it comes out (In time for the PC version I hope)

A game like destiny does take a while to review due to its size and content. But even if people get bored after playing it for 3 months ( I still think people will play for longer) you've still had your money's worth. Some games cost the same and people finish them in a few weeks. Really looking forward to tomorrow.

March is 6 month

I mean march before they start the 6 month process, as i dont think they will attempt to start till after house of wolves, Bungie have said themselves they have not started or even will start the process until 2015, so i gave a sept estimate, could be wrong

Everyone says that so they can get PC players to buy the console version in my experience. Bungie might not have a stable build yet but I guarantee they at least have it running on PC hardware. Take everything that developers/publishers say about the missing PC versions with a grain of salt
