Microsoft shows off its 'Roomalive' concept

We like to show off awesome gaming related technology, so here's something rather amazing, if not expensive looking from Microsoft.

As described by Microsoft, Roomalive is a proof-of-concept prototype that transforms any room into an immersive, augmented entertainment experience.

"The system enables new interactive projection mapping experiences that dynamically adapts content to any room. Users can touch, shoot, stomp, dodge and steer projected content that seamlessly co-exists with their existing physical environment.

"The basic building blocks of RoomAlive are projector-depth camera units, which can be combined through a scalable, distributed framework. The projector-depth camera units are individually auto-calibrating, self-localizing, and create a unified model of the room with no user intervention."

Check out how it works below,

Pretty sure I've seen something like that before and project's name was somehow different...

Seems they've just re-packaged the "Illumiroom" concept they were touting a year or two back. Seems an incredibly impractical attempt to make AR seem a viable alternative to VR to me.

Obviously it is not something aimed at immediate results. Gameplay and possible cost aside, delays to player actions makes overall experience very questionable...
