Bayonetta 2 Review Round Up

It sound like Bayonetta 2 is rather good if the critics are to be believed.

We'll have a review closer to release, which means it'll be live next week sometime, but in the meantime we have rounded up some of the scores for Platinum Games latest title, which as you know, is exclusive to Wii U.

IGN - 9.5/10
GameSpot - 10/10

But the first Bayonetta got rave reviews and yet it faired dismally sales-wise. So, that really says nothing. Must admit, part of the opening of Bayonetta One did put me off the game as well, for some odd reason. That bit where her character's atop a tombstone sucking a lolly just doesn't feel right to me but somehow I warmed up to the game rather quickly after that nonetheless. Don't like the character of 'Rodin', though. Loved it once Bayonetta reached 'Vigrid' with saucy dialogue like: 'No, you get one thing straight.' 'I am not the slightest bit interested in the fact that you made these guns.' 'lf you get in my way, I will, how do the Americans put it?' 'Oh yes. Bust a cap in yo' a$$.' Been in love with the series ever since, oh yeah, that and the character of 'Jeanne' with short locks! I must have a thing for Blonde/White haired Femmes Fatales who speak in upperclass, posh accents :)!

It does say something, it says the same thing the charts do every week, that people are stupid and buy crap.

And to those who say that they can't/won't buy the game 'cause they'd have to buy a Wii U and they therefore wouldn't see the point, why not just splash out on a Wii U?! It's anywhere between a £150 and £200 and you'll be getting a great console on which to play seminal titles like 'Mario Kart', 'Mario 3D World', 'NGRazor's Edge' and in the near future things like 'Devil's Third' by Tomonobu Itagaki!, 'Smash Bros.' and 'Starfox'?!! That reminds me, I've pre-ordered Smash Bros. here on ShopTo, no less, and am starting to get into the whole Amiibo thing; really liking the looks of 'Lil' Mac', 'Fox McCloud' & 'Captain Falcon' and what might be able to get done with them ingame!

True, 'Gloria', so true :)! I think 'Bindiana' may have a point too; it might very well be 'a sign' of impending doom since Gamespot gave it a '10/10'. Doesn't one of the 'Bayonetta 2' trailers hint at that also, what with a line like: 'Be careful, Ceraza, something ..., something Big, is going to happen to our World' :) ;)!! ”

Platinum are not a popular developer as all their games besides Metal Gear Rising have been serious flops (And Metal Gear only succeeded on it's name). The fact that this one is on a console as unpopular as the Wii U more than likely will compound their usual poor sales greatly.

Just cos you don't like Platinum doesn't mean that everyone else doesn't. All of their games bar MGR had little to none advertising, Madworld, Infinite Space, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Anarchy Reigns, ...... come to think of it they are all Sega published games, hmmm

Think he's just sore all his favourite games are getting mediocre scores when a game he doesn't like by a developer he doesn't like on a console he doesn't like is pulling in perfect scores almost everywhere.

Bayonetta 2 still won't sell well though. Come out next week and I haven't seen any advertisement

Didn't say it would, unlike some people I'm not obsessed with sales, as long as I get a decent game I'm happy.

Happy for how long though? Sales do have plenty of importance, especially if you're going to want more games from the developer you like on the console you like in future

Long enough I imagine, being as old as I am the future is considerably shorter for me.

" Think he's just sore all his favourite games are getting mediocre scores when a game he doesn't like by a developer he doesn't like on a console he doesn't like is pulling in perfect scores almost everywhere." - My favourite game of late has been Last of Us Remastered. How's Bayonetta 2 doing compared to that on those media sites you seem to invest so much of your world view in? :D

" Didn't say it would, unlike some people I'm not obsessed with sales, as long as I get a decent game I'm happy." - I'm not obsessed with sales either, I'm just not deluded enough to pretend sales say absolutely nothing about a game's worth is all.

All of their games bar MGR had little to none advertising, Madworld, Infinite Space, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Anarchy Reigns, ...... come to think of it they are all Sega published games, hmmm" - I never said or implied 'everyone else' doesn't like them, I merely stated that they were not a popular developer is all. Also, I MAY be misremembering a bit, but I can remember Vanquish at least being pretty heavily marketed... in the UK especially the marketing was quite aggressive, as there was a program running at launch for it that got you another Sega game for free with it (I know Colonial Marines and Alpha Protocol were two of the games included there... can't recall the rest). You might have a fair point on the rest though... but Madworld was never going to be successful regardless considering it released at a time it was becoming clear that mature titles didn't sell on Wii.

Your definately mis remembering there was no advertising whatsoever with Vanquish. As far as I am aware they never gave away a free game either and definately not Colonial marines as that was released in 2013 where vanquish came out in 2010. Platinum are one of my favourite developers at the moment. They make great games not a big fan of Metal Gear Solid but played rising because platinum made it and was probably the most fun I had with a game that year. Seeing as Scalebound seemed to get a lot of buzz around E3 they are a well thought after studio.

kevin mis-remembers a lot, usually very conveniently.

"As far as I am aware they never gave away a free game either and definately not Colonial marines as that was released in 2013 where vanquish came out in 2010" - You're right, it was Aliens vs Predator that was the free game I was thinking of, sorry, HMV were the ones giving it out with Vanquish the first week. I looked at some older threads on forums I post on and that free game offer was definitely a thing as well, hard to find links on it, but here's one: https://www.avforums.com/threads/buy-vanquish-at-hmv-get-alien-vs-predator-free.1344739/ . Tesco was also definitely one of the retailers involved in the deal and maybe GAME... that one I'm less sure about as I rarely shopped there even then.

& it's not that Platinum aren't a popular developer, it's that their games just aren't that popular. You make it sound like people don't pick their games up cos it says "Developed by Platinum Games"

I don't think people actively avoid games that've been made by Platinum because they've made them or anything, no. Nothing like that. Maybe I should have used better phrasing, but there's definitely something about the projects they come up with themselves that make them retail poison for some reason (They're not alone in this of course, see: Grasshopper/Suda51). I will give them that that upcoming Legend of Korra game they're making is a very smart move on their part though. Licensed titles are likely to do much better than their home grown IPs, lets face it.

Then they have the Xbone game next year, Scale-something. I'll be shocked if Microsoft don't heavily promote that. I think how you feel about Platinum is the same way I feel about Grasshopper, they don't make bad games per-say but they just don't click with me for some reason
