343 sorry for 20GB Halo Master Chief day one patch

343 Industries boss Frank O’Connor has apologised for a 20GB day-one download for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, but said it was the only way.

Speaking via Neogaf to those critical of the day one patch, O'Conner said, "The game is designed to run as a single, unified product, digital is seamless obviously, but we also wanted disc users to have the same experience, without swapping discs.

"Since the bulk of it is MP or MP related, the logic is sound. There will ALSO be a TU in there, but that in itself is a tiny fraction of the content."

The 20GB is mainly related to multiplayer portion which is obviously important to most, so the developer hopes people will understand.

"For some folks it will be straight up annoying and I both apologize unreservedly for the irritance, and hope that the package and the way it works more than makes up for it"

“Do I understand the inconvenience and annoyance for some users? Of course. I’m not going to blow smoke or ignore it.

"I've been playing the whole enchilada for a week now and the ability to sample, jump from aspect to aspect, customize with skulls and playlists has been absolutely addictive and mesmerizing.

"I think I would have enjoyed a box set with the same fidelity, but the way it all connects has for me at least, made it more than the sum of its parts."

Are you looking forward to the Halo: Master Chief Collection?

They could still provide a seamless experience with 2 disks, one for install, and one to play without any disk swapping. It's just another bullshit excuse, like the Project CARS delay because they didn't realize November was full of AAA releases, and Sony being woefully unprepared with the Driveclub servers despite hyping the game up as the next big thing.

The reason is because the console is not yet designed for multiple discs. http://www.videogamer.com/xboxone/halo_the_master_chief_collection/news/halo_the_master_chief_collections_20gb_content_update_makes_most_sense_on_xbox_one_this_year.html It is either do this or delay it until the console gets an update for handling multiple discs, which will probably not be until next year. It is probably the first game (only because it is many games crammed on to one disc and to act as one game - each game in the collection will probably not need 20GB. 20GB is patch them all) to need multiple Blu-ray discs. When the 360 launched there was not even an install option. Not surprising when even Sony did not add 3D Blu Ray support to PS4 initially when PS3 have had it for ages. Wolfenstein was not done efficiently on Xbox 360, you installed one disc and then actually play direct from the other, making the console be loud - there was no option to install the discs, to keep console quiet, like with GTA V which was best to install on a flash drive, otherwise you would get performance issues if installed both game data and play disc to the HDD. You can still play the normal offline campaigns without the update, but without the update it seems you can not play multiplayer, and if you want to play multiplayer then you would have a decent internet connection.

What? It'll be much more than 50GB out of that 400 or so GB the Xbox one hard drive allows owners to use for storage. The 40-50GB install for the disc/game data itself and then the 20GB patch on top of that. That's a huge chunk out of your hard drive.

well if you have the digital version thats very true it will be the entire content but if your buying retail it want be 100% of the data installed to hard drive, but i was spicifly talking about the addtinal 20 download not the entire install base, either way people are going to have to do it because thats what it is sure people can bitch and canplain about it but thats the only way they could do it so they need to get over it and get on with it. no ammount of whining on the internet will make a difference
