Tomb Raider deal does have a duration, says Square

As expected, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive to Xbox.

When Rise of the Tomb Raider was first announced it was unclear as to whether PlayStation fans would get to see it on their system or not, however according to Square's latest statement, it's likely they will.

“Our partnership with Microsoft on Rise of the Tomb Raider does have a duration, but we aren’t discussing those details at this time and are focused on collaborating to deliver a great game on Xbox One and Xbox 360,” Square told GameInformer.

Chances are, Square is not allowed to say outright that Tomb Raider will be coming to PlayStation and/or PC at some point, as otherwise it defeats the purpose of Microsoft's deal.

With Uncharted and Tomb Raider thought to be hitting around the same time, it may work out best for PlayStation fans anyway.

Looks like a similar deal as Mass Effect. It started as Xbox exclusive, but it turned out to be timed exclusive. Eventually all three Mass Effect games were released for Playstation.

Bit different to Mass Effect. Mass Effect was kinda like Gears of War in that M$ did have the rights to the series before EA bought Bioware
