PS4 sales hit 18.5 million worldwide

PS4 has sold an impressive 18.5 million units worldwide as of January 4.

According to the latest Sony Japan press release, Sony sold 4.1 million units over the 2014 holidays to consumers.

The good news continues for Sony as PlayStation Plus subscriptions now stand at 10.9 million.

Games highlighted for 2015 by Sony include Street Fighter 5, Final Fantasy 15, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, The Tomorrow Children, The Order: 1886 and Bloodborne, as well as a few independent titles.

"We are absolutely delighted that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as their console of choice throughout this holiday season," said president and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House. "We will continue to reinforce and deliver additional value on PS4 as the best place to play, by bringing even more exciting content and by enriching our wide array of service offerings."

PS4 software sales have also surged past 81.8 million copies across retail and digital as of January 4, including 17.8 million copies across the holiday season.

Last we heard from Microsoft it had shipped nearly 10 million Xbox One consoles just before the holidays.
