PlayStation shows Sony the money

Sony's Game & Network Services division, of which PlayStation is a part, made £2.9 billion for the quarter ending December 31.

Thanks to sales of PlayStation and PlayStation Plus, this saw a 16.8 per cent increase year on year. During the quarter Sony sold 6.4 million PS4s whereas in the same quarter the previous year Sony sold 4.5 million.

Sales of PS3 and PS3 games have declined, although this didn't stop operating income increasing to £153m.

Sony now forecasts 17.5 million PS4 and PS3 combines sales for the 2014 financial year, which ends March 2015. It had previously forecast 17 million. Forecast of software is also up, from 390 million to 420 million.

The company as a whole still expects a net loss for the entire year, but at least things are looking up from a PlayStation perspective.
