Tomb Raider Reboot has sold 8.5 million units to date

Square Enix has revealed that the latest Tomb Raider game has now sold 8.5 million units worldwide.

The figure also includes last year’s Definitive Edition release for PS4 and Xbox One, making the title the best-selling entry in the series’ history.

"Tomb Raider ignited and expanded the fan base, pushing the series to a new level," Crystal Dynamics studio head Darrell Gallagher said in a statement. "The game’s incredible sales success reflects the passionate response of players."

Square Enix had previously said that launch figures where disappointing, so this a bit of a turn around.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is due for release this year on Xbox 360 and Xbox One as a timed exclusive, although how long that exclusivity lasts for is still to be revealed.

8.5 million copies over 5 systems and they are releasing the sequal on two systems for an unspecified period of time, microsoft (xbox division) must have payed a lot more than most think for this timed exclusive, i would like to see the platform numbers though i bet it's PS4 over Xbox one by a big margin and Xbox 360 just ahead of PS3 with PC in the middle
