Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited exceeds the size of Blu-ray disc; Has 15gb day one patch

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited on PS4 and Xbox One exceeds the size of a Blu-ray disc and therefore it'll require a 15GB patch on day one of its launch.

"ESOTU is an incredibly massive game, both in terms of sheer scope and the data required to bring you this truly enormous experience. At the moment, the client will exceed a 50GB Blu-ray disc which means there will also be a large day-one patch that is somewhere in the region of 15GB," explained Bethesda.

The Elder Scrolls Online closed beta begins today 3pm UK time and we have a code, so if we manage to download this huge game in time then we'll do some streaming.

Is this going to be a buy it once and its content complete or is it going to have in app purchases galore on the PS4 as they have dropped the subscription?

It's a buy once and keep forever. There's in-game purchases but most are just cosmetics. I also assume that the expansions will be paid

Won't be long now until PS4 and Xbox One games start using double sided Blu Ray discs.

TBH, I would have expected this to be on a single layer of 25gb and it just downloaded the rest upon first load - like FF 14 and any other MMO on the PC/console. Putting it all on the disc is pointless, as if you buy it in say 6 months time there will be (hopefully if thye are actually upkeeping it) totally new code with new additions and bug fixes etc, so upon waiting for it to install the full 50GB, you will then have to sit and wait while within the loader it downloads the updated content and install that. At least FF14 installs the minimum then updates with the latest data

Playing through the Beta weekender thing they gave us last week hasn't changed my mind - generic MMO with elderscrolls skin - nothing new.
